Problem with Auto Rudder PMDG737NGXu

Featured Replies

Did anyone have any issues with auto rudder not working? I can't steer this thing on the ground with my CH yoke. If not I'll open a ticket with them.

Hi Jacek,

Might want to look at this post in the PMDG forums, taxi behavior has changed.

FSL figured out how to get realistic rudder/tiller behavior in the sim 3 years ago. Why can't PMDG?

This is a little bit too much, there's no way I can turn if I go slower than 30 knots. I use auto rudder, I'm struggling with this a lot and am annoyed.

  • No "AutoRudder steering"??

I mean it works, but you need to learn and know how to use it, some people adapted right away and some didn't, like me. People are asking for them to at least bring back the legacy taxi physics and apparently Randazzo is working on something called a "kiddie mode." *rolls eyes*

I could not find any details about autorudder steering but believe this was answered elsewhere.  I have no problems with autorudder steering.  The Intro Manual has many other quirks like some incompatibility with FSUIPC unless you delete the FSUIPC.ini and let it rebuild (only if you are having issues).

I went through the intro manual and deleted the FSUIPC.ini and I still can't steer if I'm not going 30kts. How fast do you go when you can start steering the plane?

Unfortunately I do not have the time to beta test today.  I did not say deleting the FSUIPC.ini will fix this issue (if it is an issue).  I just used it as an example.

I know Jim, I'm just trying to figure this out. Thank you.

Jacek,

I found the solution to your problem with autorudder.  It is my understanding no PMDG aircraft supports autorudder and they recommend autorudder be turned off in your P3D settings.  On page 20 of the PMDG Intro Guide for the 737NGXu, they show the settings for realism and autorudder is turned off (unchecked).  I indicated I had no issues with it but discovered I did not have it enabled in the first place and probably why I saw no issues.  So turn it off.

Best regards,

Jim

I turn the current NGX (and the 747/777) just fine with the AutoRudder enabled, Jim. In fact, the ground handling of the NGX is (IMO) very good indeed, so I am not really sure what to make of the handful of comments that criticise it.....

I saw where it was not compatible with the previous 737NG for P3D (according to post made by you) -

This topic over at the PMDG Forums indicates auto rudder has never been supported by PMDG and the Intro manual indicates it should be turned off - https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/pmdg-737-ngxu-for-prepar3d-v4/27600-can-t-taxi-please-help.

There are a lot of other posts about the auto rudder.  It is a major problem for many

I can only report what I read while researching this issue.  For me, with auto rudder off, I have no issues.  It is not as in the real world as I have the Saitek joystick that I twist to steer and it does it fairly well.  I really do not think the auto rudder has ever been perfected in flight simulation but know that Lockheed techs have attempted to fix it.  Personally I would love to see perfection and it working but know this is not always possible as many have different computers and hardware.

You misunderstood my comment in that thread, Jim. I stated that the PMDG 737 NGX is incompatible with P3D v2.x, not the use of AutoRudder.

I have a ticket open with PMDG on this and will update the thread if I have more info. I've asked (as did others) for their development team to bring back the legacy taxi physics as an option, we'll see how this goes.. I'll fiddle around with it more tonight by turning off the auto rudder in P3D and report back.
