Howard, I think you're right. I originally added the entry when using Demo 1. When installing Demo 2 it insisted that I first un-install Demo 1, which I duly did. When I looked at the cfg file I assumed it was part of the fresh install, but I don't think it was. I renamed the file and ran the demo and exited - this causes FSX to create a new default file. It didn't contain the entry. It may be that the entry needs to be added manually. I'm going to do a few tests to see if it has any effect on the blurries. If I find anything I'll report back. If the entry has no effect it may indicate that the Demo 2 is not the final build. Maybe it's surprisingly old, though it certainly does contain quite a few significant fixes. Best regards, Chris

1. What is the Mesh size (Pixel per point} going to be for FSX?3.Could someone send me a DVD copy of FSX DEMO? I would gladly pay a reasonable price for time DVD, and S/H. I only have 56K capabilities.I will in turn send you a copy of my latest West Virginia Scenery if you want [email protected]

If someone mentioned this already, sorry, but while performance seems improved somewhat, the trees still seem to be the real killers on my system. Whenever I look in the direction of a forested area, it gets pretty choppy. Adjusting autogen didn't have much effect, since that seems to control the buildings. Why doesn't it control both? So I'm stuck with poorly performing trees, and no way to adjust them. Have they truly been optimized?Otherwise, I'm still enthralled with the atmospheric effects at altitude. Light years beyond FS9, and it's going to make those high-altitude flights a real joy.Cheers,Todd

<< Dude, this is the final version. Any bugs you see now have already been cut onto the retail dvds! >>Do you really believe Microsoft would go RTM with the code when guage lighting isn't working correctly. I can understand a variety of minor bugs, happens all the time... but to release with this type of major issue is highly unlikely. I may have to eat my words, but I doubt I will.DougDell XPS Gen3 (3.6GHz/800FSB) | 2GB DDR SDRAM | 74GB SATA, 10k RPM (C: ) | 120GB SATA (D: ) | 512MB ATI Radeon X1900XTX (Catalyst 6.8) | Audigy 2 ZS Sound | MS Force Feedback 2 | WindowsXP Pro (SP2) | DirectX 9.0c

I just checked it out and it is just making me wonder how the final version will look like! I just paid a ton of money to buy the Dell XPS700 and still I am getting an average FPS of about 14!!! (Everything maxed)I hope this wouldn't be the case in the final release! Also I tried adding Eric Cantu's 727-200 and the wingviews could not be seen from the 2-D cockpit! Is it because it is the trial version or ...?!? I don't know but I am hoping that the fs2004 wingview models will work fine in FSX otherwise I don't even know if I will upgrade! Eric's model is a 2004 model and based on what they have promised it should work fine with FSX! Any comments anyone?Hopefully the final version will do justice. Thanks,Reza

And how are you sure the demo is the final version build? Craig

Reza, If you expect to run the release version with all the sliders full right your are most likley in for a dissapointment. I haven't seen a release of FS since I started using it back in 1985 that ran full bore on existing machines. The sliders are there for a reason. Craig

It's running significantly more smoothly on my meager system than did the first demo. Specifically, little to no more blurries, and the ability to fly with AA and maintain about 20 fps.Water 1.x high still looks exactly like 1.x mid and 1.x low, though (on my system).Interestingly, things seem noticeably slower than demo 1 on the island with Princess Juliana, and noticeably faster than demo 1 on islands with only autogen. Still though, I can't wait. EarlP4 2.8 GHz1 GB PC320080 GB PATARadeon 9550

I see the same thing on my machine. I have to set autogen to None to get rid of the FPS dips. Its a shame, there is a lot of new eye candy, the increased ground resolution is great, the interface is improved but I just can't live without the autgen. If this demo is based the final code I will wait with FS-X until I get a new machine.

Hi,A couple of people are still banging on about dual core support, this has been covered in depth by tdragger. Here: http://blogs.msdn.com/tdragger/archive/200.../21/711152.aspxTo clarify: Texure decompression is about the only process FSX is able to send to the second core, as code for the scenery generation are so linked to the overall simulation looping, it's not possible to pass any chores to a second CPU as the way they report each thread would become out-of-sync...Ok, I'm paraphrasing here, as I really don't want to go into this now. But, the point is... Graphics, are a GPU job, not CPU - The CPU is for gauges, radios, and positional sutchlike.ANYWAY!! The new demo feels smoother, even at 10fps (unlike FS9 where 10FPS made it jittery) I assume it's down to logicical work-flow optimization. So, yes, Direct10 will be the FPS holy grail, not multiple CPUs

I had terrible performance on my first few tries. Then I remembered that I was forcing my graphics card settings via the driver. If I choose to do these settings within the application I get beter performance but autgen is still a killer (have to set it to none) AA is also an FPS eater.Tested on an AMD X2 4400 with 2 Gb Memory and an ATI X800XL.Al in al I find the performance to meager to buy FS-X for my current machine. I will monitor the forum and try sugested settings and tweaks but at the moment it looks like I will have to wait until I get new hardware before buying

This component may be the really important one for FSX:1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Card Hopefully, combined with a Intel 2 Duo Processor E6700 (2.66GHz,1066FSB) with 4MB cache and 4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, there could be an FSX enjoyable experience. We'll see. I still won't take my sliders completely to the right when I get this machine at the end of the month.

What you see for FPS in the second demo will be what you see for FPS in the release version. If FPS are poor in the demo they will also be poor in the retail version. I believe the The 2D wingviews will not be visible. There is a long thread about that somewhere - a search should find it.Doug
