This is good news. It would be even better if they brought back the 146s

Now that was a nice aeroplane. 2001 production ended. Be nice if there was a new version with modern avionics and systems. 4 engines has its advantages, but I guess double the maintenance.

I was gutted when the RJ-X programme was abandoned

I recall some of them on the Guernsey to UK route were pretty old and dodgy, past their sell by date.

Speaking from personal experience my first visit to Jersey back in 2014 was on a Flybe Dash-8 and the climbout from Manchester really surprised me. A very nimble and powerful aircraft. The ones I flew in were always in decent nick. Perfect for the short runway at EGJJ too.

I hope they return as it gives me a chance to visit family down there.

This was 2017 I recall that I first flew on Flybe Q400's. My last flight was when they went bust, I was visiting my daughter Katy and had trouble getting home, as I mentioned in this thread. Manged to get a rescue flight on a Blue Islands ATR 600.  I flew to Guernsey to live, 3rd October, on an ATR 72-600 again, and have to say I prefer it. Wider, more  room.

It was a mixed bag with the Q400's, some were in very good shape, relatively new, but some were quite old. On one flight the windows were so scratched you could barely see outside and there was a panel peeling off on the engine nacelle. But yes, plenty of power. Acceleration on the runway when the pitch of the blades suddenly changes is impressive. Reverse upon landing throws you forward in your seat too.

Currently in Guernsey we've gone back into lockdown, so only essential travellers allowed in or out. Prior to that, you could come but had to isolate for two weeks on arrival. Aurigny for us, again, the ATR 72-600.

Pretty sure Blue Islands are currently operating to Jersey. Probably have to isolate though.

It was a similar story with the Flybe cabin crew as I recall.

I guess I must have been lucky then as the cabin crew were always very nice. 😁

@martin-w, as long as there's a flight from MAN to JER I really don't mind what I fly on. Good luck with your lockdown and hope you're soon out of it. 👍

Phase one from Monday, so we are on the way out. A reduction in cases. Not that there were many to begin with, they don't take chances here being a small island. If it got out of hand we would be in trouble.

It did get out of hand on the mainland, and we have paid the consequences. 120,000 dead is......to be perfectly honest....shameful.

I remember a couple of years ago taking the 747 into Belfast international, we then shot across town to Belfast harbour airport on a coach  to catch a Flybe Q400 over to Manchester.

The 747’s crew amounted to 20 and completely swamped the little Q400 and it’s 2 cabin crew.

There was a very humorous and  eccentric Scottish Lady in charge of the Flybe cabin and she treated us all like airline royalty 😄

No-one had a mobile phone to capture the occasion then? Pity. 😁

I don’t think we would have dared!

I mentioned it to a mate of mine who was a Flybe captain and he knew instantly who I was talking about 😂
