April 1, 20206 yr Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any tips for the best mouse or device for looking around please, I came accross this..... https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wideview.it%2F3d_mouse_flight_simulator.htm&data=02%7C01%7C%7C23e7ee67ef1642e16eef08d7d5f3e3a2%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637213115777094961&sdata=b%2BvggkUIa1zZNztyC1bcaApgZxfFkXBkEWlHDAwdatQ%3D&reserved=0 I'm not sure that it works with XP 11, any other ideas please? Best Phil
April 1, 20206 yr That link is completely borked. Most people use TrackIR or Trackhat for looking around. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
April 1, 20206 yr i use a Logitec mouse with a side button set to space bar which allows me to move around pan and zoom with the mouse wheel. I have a TrackIR but don't use it much instead opting for my Chaseplane camera presets which get me around my PMDG cockpits as fast as I can move my head. I got Chaseplane on sale at ORBX for about $25 which is cheaper then some gaming mouses (mice:) would cost. I'm not sure if the sale is still on but if not ORBX is quite frequent with sales so I doubt it would be a long wait. Sorry I didn't notice this was an Xplane forum. April 1, 20206 yr Commercial Member So, while the wonderful (and I really and sincerely mean that... absolutely WONDERFUL) people at Laminar Research are kind enough to provide me with Xplane, work and a lot of focus on P3Dv4 and MSFS has not allowed me to enjoy their sim... so this advice comes from a non-Xplaner (at least for now). There is a terrific addon called X-Camera for XP11, but the best advice I can give you is to use Virtual Reality Goggles or use TrackIR. I recommend you spend a little time researching all three. I've used TrackIR since around 1996, and you couldn't pry it away from me, however VR is like TrackIR on steroids. I hope this is helpful to you my friend. Best wishes. April 1, 20206 yr Author Thanks foreach of your replies, there's a lot of good advise there. As I mentioned earlier, I have tried Track IR and I found it hard going, I may well give it another try, along with Tracker XP. I'll have another tthink about it What I was hoping for was a small device like a 2nd joystick but smaller, or something that I could to use along with XCamera. Best Phil
April 2, 20206 yr I was a committed TrackIR user for may years. After I moved out of my house into an apartment I had to give up man cave and I sold my TrackIR5 and pretty much gave up the sim for a while. I then decided to give VR a go with a Sumsung Odyssey+. The being there factor is whats best about VR and the tracking is excellent in P3D and XP11 but the issue for me where 1. Performance, 2. image quality and 3. Feild of view. (Which I believe at least in my case becomes more noticeable and immersion killing after some time). I moved again and this time into a house and got a new man cave 🙂 and since I sold the Samsung Odyssey+ before the long distance move to reduce the goods I was taking with me, I ended up buying an other. I bought 2 in fact and treated myself to my first 4K big screen TV. A Samsung 55" NU6900. The 4K image in P3D blow me away! And I became disenchanted with VR. A few weeks ago I bought another TrackIR5 (two of them in fact😆). It's the first time I've used TrackIR in years and all I can say is I don't know what I was thinking! TrackIR5 is a absolute must have for Flight Sim. I find the regular reflective clip for a baseball cap more than meets my expectation. I got mine in Ebay from china. It didn't come in the regular package. More of an OEM brown box but its definitely authentic and brand new. I an quite sure that the merchants selling it will accept offers of less than a hundred buck. The add gave the impression that the Trackclip pro was included but it was not. I paid $120 each for the two I got but when I complained about the absence of the track clip pro they agreed to give me a $20 each refund. Shipping was free. I don't know where else you'll get a TrackIR5 for less than $100. TrackIR 5 - Highly Recommended!😁
April 2, 20206 yr Also, I was wondering for a long time whether to buy TrackIR5. I don't have a home cockpit, but I have a lot of GoFlight modules that serve me very well and I like to "use" buttons and knobs manually ;-), so VR glasses are not an option for me. After a few years I finally managed to buy a used TrackIR + TrackClips Pro. Since then, I can't imagine flying without it. I would add that I only fly with GA machines, i.e. low and slow, where "natural" looking around is a very nice and wonderful thing.
April 2, 20206 yr For the tinkerers among us, the cheapest headtracking solution is Opentrack with an Aruco marker. Cost is a printed black and white piece of paper, a piece of cardboard, something to fix it onto a basecap and a webcam. I use this setup and it's working well enough, so the bang-for-buck ratio is simply unbeatable. April 13, 20206 yr I am using a gamer mouse by Logitech. it has profiles. I have set it to emulate the middle mouse button (for FSX with FSUIPC and another simulator) and the right mouse button for X-Plane. I also set lots of views to look around on the numerical pad. I cannot get myself to wear a TrackIR hat, and the idea to turn the head and look to the screen sounds unnatural to me.
