Magic Light - Exploring the World with P3D v5

Featured Replies

A collection of photos I took while visiting some beautiful parts of the planet during week 1 with the new sim. Wasn't really out to take pics, but got some along the way while testing. I am really liking how P3D v5 looks so far.

Postcards are from: Smoky Mountains at sunset, a desert somewhere(!), New Zealand (Flightbeam), Glacier National Park, the Alps, Tenerife (Digital Design) and Gibraltar (with one of Henrik's ships in the foreground).

Except where noted, the scenery is just some stuff I've built in previous years, now looking prettier than in the past thanks to P3D's new atmospherics and water.

Happy flying all. 🙂

Yes, excellent lighting and ambience, also beautiful mountain sceneries...!

[The only one, I've visited, a couple of times, is the Smoky Mountains...so, thanks, for the world-tour...! Like Henrik's ship, a fan of that (AI) work...!]

Nice shots, I especially love the Cherokee ones!

New Zealand shot is Flightbeam Wellington - nice scenery, on sale last I checked. Every flightbeam I’ve flown is a winner.

There is a shot from Digital Design’s Tenerife scenery there as well, which was a free giveaway from Simmarket last week.

For the rest:

Mesh: I’ve mostly been flying with default mesh, as I’ve been testing airports I’ve previously designed to see if they’re compatible. I have the Pilot’s mesh installed but it wasn’t active in any of these shots, I think. I did take comparison photos in the alps of default vs Pilots, the latter was definitely a little better but you mainly notice it with close objects. The mountains in Glacier NP look very sharp, and there’s a good chance I had Orbx’s NRM mesh active when I took those shots.

Photoscenery: Alps and Glacier NP is photoscenery that I made back in the P3D v2/v3 days using FS Earth Tiles, with manual water masking. I was impressed when I first tried it with P3D v3, but it looks a lot nicer now with P3D v5’s advanced atmospherics. DX12 really makes ortho shine, I’ve never seen it looking so good.

The smoky mountains near KRHP/KAVL/KTYS is an area of scenery I’ve been working on for a few years now, trying to fully populate the airports in this beautiful region. With “fall foliage” FS Earthtiles photoscenery, definitely a pleasant place for GA flying or a quick hop in the NGXu (while there’s only A2A aircraft here, the NGXu has had a decent workout in the new sim).

Cheers!

The enhanced atmospherics and the lighting are just amazing. To think this is default P3D...
