July 1, 20205 yr As beta's are typically deemed 'feature complete', unless floatplanes appear in the upcoming alpha 5 they are looking more and more likely to arrive post-release. Thoughts? Bernard
July 1, 20205 yr The Ikon A5 is a float plane and it was shown in early videos. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
July 1, 20205 yr Thoughts... We don't really know. Once we see a final release we will know. If you get any responses to your request for thoughts they will be wild guesses, wishes, & dreams.
July 1, 20205 yr Author The A5 yes, I believe there was also a cub spotted on one of the menu screens at the preview event. I don't recall any videos/screens showing aircraft actually on the water though, and that's primarily what I meant by 'thoughts'. I guess as with everything it's a matter of wait and see. Amid all of the complaints that each dev update is much of a sameness in terms of media updates, the final alpha may yet show us a lot we haven't seen. Bernard
July 2, 20205 yr The airport EP video had no floatplane base either to show. Of course, alpha testers can check whether there are pontoons with special equipments in the sim. But they can’t tell anything 🤫. And of course no, I do not push them to break their sacred vow 😇. I've been around the (FSX/ P3D) world twice. First time in a Diamond Twinstar DA-42 - average speed (going West to East) - 165 Kts. Second time in Piper PA-28 Warrior II - average speed 110 kts - and that trip seemed to take forever. In fact I cheated on that one after a while - doing some of the boring segments by dismantling the wings and throwing the lot in my PMDG 777F. Especially India and the middle east - just endless repeating textures stretching out to the horizon. That having been said - MSFS2020 shouldn't have any boring bits as it's all unique. However, you do feel not a small sense of accomplishment once you've done a RTW'er. Edited July 2, 20205 yr by Will Fly For Cheese

A floatplane is most often a conventional aircraft which has floats added to it to support its fuselage well clear of the water; a flying boat does not sit clear of the water on floats, instead it has a fuselage which also acts as a hull. If either type also has wheels which can be used for landing and taking off, then it it is also classed as amphibious. So the Boeing 314 Clipper is a flying boat, but the Cessna 172 with floats added to it, is a floatplane. Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 2, 20205 yr Author Re-watching some of the videos, I spotted these options in the airport filter during the IFR episode was scrolled past very quickly (perhaps intentionally?) Heliport is there too, and below that (out of shot) there is an option for Other Runways. Edited July 2, 20205 yr by viz Bernard

Some pure float planes have wheels on the floats, making them amphibious, but landing on a dry surface has been described as "like landing a shopping cart." The PBY was first produced as a flying boat but later versions also had wheels. Calling the Ikon a float plane was shorthand and I think people understood. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! With a range of about 300 nautical miles you might find this a bit difficult. 😄 An Atlantic crossing can be made with an aircraft with a range of 450 nm, the Pacific crossing requires at least 700. Hook Not necessarily Hook, not necessarily. He could run the tank dry and then bring it down on to the ocean and hoist a little mast and sail the rest of the way. Technically it wouldn't be flying though. Well, sort of it would as sailing and flying both use aerofoils - just one's vertical and the other's horizontal.
