FPS based AI Traffic Limiter

Pete, I've resumed recently my efforts to learn flying with P2A ATC (on a networked computer), actually it's in front of my eyes right now. How do you make P2A load a flight plan in P3D?

Many thanks.

Do you need to press a button on the UI to Export a flight plan to P3D? Or is there an option in the Settings to automate that?

Does it matter for FSUIPC Limiter that a flight plan doesn't get loaded until P2A connects?

Thanks.

Ray, why would it be 20 aircraft only? With your hardware it would be more logical to expect around 80 to 100 in EGLL.

Thanks.

Dirk, strangely EGLL wasn’t the culprit here. FlyTampa KBOS seems very heavy on fps but it’s probably not the Ai. I had a lot of moderate impact options turned on for KBOS when I was tweaking the Ai limit. Having turned many of those off I found fps improved and a lot more than 20 Ai could be accommodated.

I think around 70 min at EGLL will keep fps to 30. It’s variable dependent on weather of course.

Ray, I just flew out of FT KBOS last night and it is indeed pretty heavy on frames.  I even turned my AI down to zero and I only gained 4-5 fps as I was sitting in low-mid 20's in the FSL 320 at the gate.  It was also at dusk with the airport dynamic lighting on and I do have many options turned on in the FT configurator. I generally keep my AI limit at 90 in FSUIPC and reduce when needed.

Hi Eric,

It surprised me just how much of a hit there is with all those options on. Turn most off and performance will recover. At least FT had the good sense to make them optional. I'm sat there now at 09:20 local using an avatar to maximise fps and locked at 30 I'm getting 90 Ai with the minimum set to 70. Much better!

But at 20:15 local it's risen to 113 with the avatar but drops to 20 Ai when I load the PMDG737. Very dependent on vehicle used and the PMDG / FSL are the big eaters. With the Xtreme Prototypes Lear25 I can get 32 Ai. With the PC12, it's 49.

Ray, how does the presence of avatar can affect performance? It's new on my. I usually turn avatar off in the settings.

Thanks!

Dirk, if you just want to look at an airport or even plane spot as they take-off and land the Avatars are an excellent choice. They're just human beings so you can place them right at the runway and watch the planes. As there are no gauges etc. they have minimal impact of P3D.

There's an option. But it doesn't load the plan till you ask for and receive clearance.

My P2A installation isn't on this PC else i'd have a look for the option. But it is there somewhere.  Why not ask Dave on the P2A website if you can't find it?

The latter. But then you have to get clearance, as I said.

FSUIPC is dynamic, reacting to the situation as it is.

Yes, Pete, thank you. All is clear.

I get quite a good spread. Currently I use these values:

[Traffic Limiter]
TrafficLimit=100
TargetFrameRate=25
PlannedAirportsPreference=10
AirportPreference=20
GroundPreference=64
NearerPreference=64

But I change them as I experiment with other settings in the graphics. I'm currently also using True Earth GB, so I'm just pleased it's even flyable in London -- it wasn't in P3D4!

Note that as I like to see a well populated airport I have both Airport preferences set quite low for deletions. The planned airport one does depend on you loading your plan into P3D of course. In my case this is done for me by the ATC program I use (Pilot2ATC).

If you are using something like AIG traffic with most or all of the airlines added then there should be enough to populate EGLL quite well. The numbers of BA flights alone would fill half of it.

Pete

Thanks Pete.  I clearly did  not understand how this worked.  I just copied your settings.

The [Traffic Limiter] data is a section in your FSUIPC6 settings file, "FSUIPC6.INI", which is next to FSUIPC6 itself in the folder you chose when you installed it. If you've already forgotten where, then in the Logging tab in the FSUIPC Options you will find a button you can select to open the correct folder for you.

Thanks Pete, these settings are working well with me, will stick to this. 🙂

@hsvgrange, knowing your hardware would be helpful. You can see mine in my sig and 70 at SimWings Heathrow works pretty well for keeping 30fps.
