October 23, 200619 yr Moderator >There's a lesson to be learned here, folks!>>Thanks for this eyeopener, Bill! ;)Well, here's a "confession" of my own.Until I had to sit down and program a GNS430 and GNS530 pair for Eaglesoft's Cirrus, Columbia and Liberty projects, I wasn't all that familiar with the G500 default either! In the process, I discovered that - evidently like the majority of simmers - I had simply dismissed it as "default junkware," and hadn't actually taken the time to RTFM...Boy, was I ever wrong! *:-* Fr. October 23, 200619 yr And I reviewed it just a few months ago! The Mindstar is a great tool if you want something that works like the real G1000, Stasi tells me the next update for FS9 is almost done and a FSX version will follow shortly after that. Mindstar will be including versions for singles, twins, CS and fixed props so you can use them in the G1000 equipped FSX default models. October 23, 200619 yr Boy, do I make a fool of myself in public... ;) This isn't my best topic here, now is it (apart from my inital helpfull comments, of course)! :) I have to say I haven't been flying in FS a lot since the beginning of this year, nor did I follow everything that has happened in simland. FS X got my attention though, and after installing it I immediately got the virus again (I got an up and down relation with FS, I have to say: months of daily flying are followed with months of no flying at all!) I'll check out that Mindstar G1000, though! I'm going to read the review (http://www.avsim.com/pages/0806/Garmin1000/Garmin1000.htm) NOW, but I don't think I'll buy it until the FS X compatible version is out and I know which planes it can be build into and how things are progressing, like the not-working pages (under development) as well as some others problems (yes, I've already read the conclusion of the review ;)). It would be the most expensive add-on I've ever bought, so I don't want to buy it too soon... (Maybe I'll even wait until I got my new Vista/DX10 computer, because I already got low fps with the FS X G1000.)
October 23, 200619 yr Hi,I have close to 30 hours on the Diamond DA42 Twin Star with a G1000 cockpit. I was very happy to hear FSX would include the G1000, would be a good way to keep my skills fresh. Great was my disappointment when I found out that MS rendition of the G1000 is very very basic. It lacks the necessary instrumentation for a succesful IFR flight (using raw data, not the GPS) .. where are the two RMI needles?? where's the DME .. or I must be missing something but i'm leaving the G1000 equipped FS planes in the hangar and have fun with the real thing.Jan
January 21, 200719 yr Commercial Member The latest revision of the Mindstar G1000 has the RMI needles, DME and ADF all functioning.
January 22, 200719 yr I been look for the switch to change the nav to GPS I could not find it. Anyone find it?
January 22, 200719 yr Hi Bill,How are the GNS units in the Eaglesoft products? I have the RxP unit for FS9, and loved using it and found it a great currency tool for the real thing, however it also used the Garmin emulator. Does the Eaglesoft unit have the same functionality?Thanks- Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
January 22, 200719 yr >But the FS X version doesn't. ;)>>As the documentation says: 'The G1000 in Flight Simulator>doesn't model all of the G1000's features (and new features>are being added all the time). It does however model most of>what a typical private pilot would use on a typical VFR or IFR>flight (using an early model G1000).' The FSX G1000 goes have some odd omissions, especially the engine page and the range ring. Given that turbocharged aircraft like the Mooney Bravo rely on the Turbine Inlet Temperature for proper leaning, I find it bizarre that the FSX G1000 doesn't have the ability to show that information. This is related to the FS G430 as well as the G1000, but I noticed that MS changed the function of the FPL (flightplan) button enough to render it basically useless. On the real G430, pressing FPL allows the pilot to input a multi-legged flightplan using airports, GPS intersections or VOR's as waypoints. The most useful part of the G430's flightplan function is that the pilot can also preset instrument approaches (GPS or overlays) before takeoff which really reduces the workload, but In FS9/FSX, the flightplan button only displays information regarding the flightplan loaded into Flight Simulator.
January 23, 200719 yr I am waiting for the mindstar's G1000 to be setup in a quality payware aircraft. Hopefully Eaglesoft would come up with their version of Mindstar's G1000 soon.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

Use the PROC button to pre-load the expected approach & runway into the FPL.Later, you can either Activate the PROC or change it to the one actually assigned, then Active it. Fr.
