List of third-party developers working on MSFS

Recommended Posts

For scenery Devs, I can see possibly buying a "detailed" airport like KPHL.

However, how much better would a 3rd party Miami (or New York) scenery have to be to distingusih it from the default to warrant a purchase? Or will 3P Devs just focus on areas in FS2020 that do not have great Sat info to create a good looking 3D area?

If MSFS2020 is bringing me a rendered world (as a default) and even if every area does not look great, I just cant see buying a state or region for $30, $40.....especially when MSFS will constantly improve the base sim as better data is available.

If it sells...it sells, but part of my excitement about MSFS is to have a "good enough" base sim where I don't need a dozen or so addons outside of aircraft / airports.

Good point, Bill. I am no specialist here. All I've ever done was ground stuff, nothing in the sky. Maybe @sightseer would know.

I have no idea either but I'm sure the clouds are shader based which is something I know next to nothing about.  I bought a book to try and learn a little but the first thing it wanted me to do was download some program I never heard of.  I wish books would quit doing that.

I agree.  I reinstalled P3D V5 on a new computer yesterday and it is a PITA installing all of the add-ons.

From what could be seen from the official videos a great deal of the ground services are already included in MSFS.

Nevertheless there will always be room for improvement, so FSDT will still be in business, I guess.

I'll bet MFS does not have the flight attendant saying "How you doin'" 82 times during the boarding.  We need that !!!

Yes. And we were totally spoiled by Sunskyjet....  Incredible detail and little frame rate hit.  Still almost five years later my best quality add-on airport.

I see Rex Simulations on the list, I honestly don't know how they will improve the default weather,

Likewise, aren't the scenery developers sort of hosed?

There is still lots of work for scenery designers.

Of course, airports and many other things. I had my keyboard in 4th gear and my brain in park.

Thanks,

Looking at recent videos, there might be a nice market here for smaller-scale 3rd party development, because as it seems, the sim will still lack a lot of little scenery details we are used to having in previous titles.

A few examples from recent videos:

  • Outside of high-detail photogrammetry areas, I haven't seen any boats of any kind, neither moving or as stationary objects in yacht harbors.
  • Ships, if they appear at all, seem to be entirely stationary currently. A lot of the port areas in the sim have ships only baked into the ground texture, with no 3D object at all.
  • The autogen AI seems to be pretty good at placing buildings, but not so good at other, smaller objects, like containers in ports.
  • I haven't seen any seaplane bases with actual piers so far.
  • A lot of the bridges in photogrammetry areas still apear as solid blocks or "dams", where the textured ground mesh wraps around and forms a bridge.

A lot of these details might be places where smaller developers could provide tons of content that would make the sim look much more lively.

Some things should be obvious.

Not all cities are 3D.
You might want a more detailed version of a favorite airport if it's not one of the 40.
You might want an airport that no longer exists, like Meigs.
Some will want vintage airports, like 30's airmail airports or military airfields as they existed in WW2.

Still plenty to do. 🙂

If SDK tools are accessible to the public and not only to masters of C# and WASM and other niceties of that kind, this sim will see a boom of addons and freeware as we have not seen before.

To make this clear, alle cities are 3D but not all of them are in photogrammetry (most of them are not).😉

Otherwise I agree. While the sim may be excellent out of the box, there's enough work to be done for 3rd parties.

Kind regards, Michael
