August 9, 20205 yr Greetings, testers and people not under NDA! I was wondering if you could do us a favor and do a video or a forum post comparing the live sim weather with real life. I'm very interested to see how the sim weather compares to real life. Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78
August 9, 20205 yr Oh I wished I could talk about this! I’ll just say that MSFS the approach appears to be different from any other sim to date. Some people may not like it. I think it is brilliant and incredibly useful as a learning tool. Chris
August 9, 20205 yr @snglecoil The weather menu sort of reminds me of the one in XP (it shows alot more info than you'd have in fsx for example). It seems MS?Asobo have really taken alot of cues this time around from XP11, and then put their own twist on it. btw - I suppose the devs don't give you any sort of idea as to a time frame when you can expect NDA 100% lifted? August 9, 20205 yr I don't know if any content creator is going to read this but following on from along the same lines it would be nice to maybe see a comparison between how this sim replicates weather conditions against some of the payware options. Like Active Sky, Skymax Pro etc. Would be nice to see a compassion video of how the built in weather engine performs.

For most of us who will continue on as testers after the initial release, It will not be lifted for any alpha/beta/preview builds. We can talk about the release version to our heart’s content, of course. So I’ll give my opinion on the real-time weather system then for sure. Chris
August 10, 20205 yr Author I hope someone with the preview build can shed some light on this then. One of the many youtubers (are you here, guys?) should take the time to make a vid on this topic 🙂 Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78
August 10, 20205 yr Speaking about the weather, we might have a nice test case to compare with real life just when the sim releases, if Tropical Disturbance One develops into a proper Atlantic Hurricane. 🧐
August 10, 20205 yr Author Sounds great, @Der Zeitgeist 🙂 At least for us in the sim. Hope it doesnt develop into someting too big. Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78
August 10, 20205 yr Author By the way, do we even know if hurricanes are depicted in sim? Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78

August 10, 20205 yr AFAIK there's presently no way to simply set visibility ( prevailling ) in MSFS for custom weather. Looking at the videos where users are setting their weather manually, you can't find any entry for that. That's quite a limitation IMO 😕 at least from an IMC pov - a basic parameter any IMC-oriented sim should implement from start... Maybe they are already working on it and it will be ready for release? The preview version isn't the final version. Edit: Come to think of it, the "final" version isn't the final version either 🙂 Edited August 10, 20205 yr by Andreas Stangenes Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78

First you set a cloud layer then you set the density. This is more like it works in real life for low levels but isn't quite intuitive. I think once we get used to it, we'll prefer it, even if it is a couple more steps. I have no idea how they might handle the lower visibility in the northeast US compared to the almost unlimited visibility in the west. It looks like we've seen examples of this in the videos. Hook Still, there should be some way to set it, as per the corresponding METAR or trainning scenario one is willing to set... How can we translate from "aerosol density" into that ? It may look ingenious from the graphics pov, but it's totally useless from a flight simulation / imc simulation pov...
