Anyone set specific goals for this?

Featured Replies

Given how incredible the world looks In this sim, I plan to go on an epic tour of my homeland. it is my intention to set off from my nearest airport, Wolverhampton, and head through Wales and onto the coast. Then I plan to follow the coastline and do a complete circuit of Britain, hopping from airfield to airfield. I also intend to pop across to each and every island that has an airfield or landing strip. I don’t know how many sessions, or days, this will take me in a little Cessna, but I cannot wait. For the added challenge, I also intend to use real weather, irrespective of whether it is good or bad, and also the real time of day.  So, if I can’t get to the PC until it’s dark, wet and windy, so be it.

I’ve always wanted to do this, but have never been sufficiently motivated with other sims, due to fairly lacklustre landscapes. The nearest I came was with XPlane 11, and the Orbx add-ons.  But this is on a whole, new level. I am really pumped up. Just hope my current system doesn’t try to ruin the experience too much.

Do any of you good folk have specific goals in mind ahead of purchase?

Yup, I'll be looking out for how usable the non-ICAO unlicensed airfields, disused airfields and farm strips are. Theoretically these should be usable in the sim if the terrain is reasonably detailed.

I’ll be searching these out too. But only after an ultralight, or microlight has been introduced 🙂

Nah, you can get an airliner down on grass:

The Deluxe version MSFS has a Zlin Shock Ultra...it has a stall speed of 15 knots...so in other words you can put it down on a postage stamp!

Once I get the hang of flying I plan to slowly make my way around the world one small flight at a time.

That sounds great, but I would much prefer a good, old-fashioned microlight. There is a lot to be said for an almost unimpeded view. I intend to do much local sightseeing as soon as I can get my hands on one.

I’ve heard some people are only going to visit the places they actually fly to. No just spawning at locations, I like the idea of this but I don’t think I have the patience for it. There’s too much I need to see around the world.

After my UK tour, I shall try to navigate across all of the continents starting from home. The only bits I intend to cheat on are large expanses of ocean.

Even if you do cheat on those parts that will be an epic journey. Enjoy yourself 🙂

Thanks. Although I think the initial download will be the biggest journey.  Just hope my broadband has one of its rare “fast days” 🙂.

Home first. 600' yard, so landing at home of course (I cut the grass this weekend). Our central Canada city has photogammetry on bing maps, so will fly the city, land at grass strip near me, then our airport.

Off to Vancouver where I lived for a while, then to east cost  we loved visiting and driving.

After that replicate our driving vacations down both coasts to Mexico from Vancouver to San Diego, then Boston to Key West.

Then, probably travel some

I am planning on starting off in a c152 over my home town of Kristiansand, Norway. Then I'm probably gonna take a caravan or the tbm up to Oslo to check out the opera house and other land marks. From there im not sure about the frame i'm chosing yet, but going south through Sweden, Denmark, Germany and on to Switzerland (Innsbruck) and over to Italy (Bolzano). Following south through Parma, Rome and Pompei, going on to Scicily and then Malta before hopping over to Libya. Then im swiging east flying to Cairo, seeing the pyramids (where I went visiting last year), and following the Nile as far south as I can go. I've planned to fly over lake Victoria and see if I can spot some elephants and giraffes along the way, before I finally arrive at my destination: Cape of Good Hope.

After that I'm gonna tour my home country of Norway, and I'm gonna thoroughly enjoy flying the fjords and snowcapped mountains before ending up at Kirkenes.

I plan to do an immersive around-the-world program as a pilot that has been hired by a billionaire to fly him and his family around the world on an epic sight seeing tour.  The premise is that he owns a private luxury Dreamliner which we will use for long haul flights between countries or regions.

Then we will use a locally sourced Caravan for sightseeing or a Cessna business jet for regional flights or whatever is available (if I feel like mixing it up).

I plan to do a bunch of training flights (in game tutorials) and practise flights (in my local area)  before this epic trip.

Then we will start in SFO and fly around the world. Starting with the SW states, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, South America, South Pacific, Australia, SE Asia, China, Korea, Japan, then onto India and the Himalayas then the Middle East, Africa, Europe, And home.

i will plan each region as I go, being sure to hit all the top destinations, airports, and landmarks as we go with as many local flights in each area as necessary.

I’m guessing this will take at least a year (???) in real time doing a session each evening on average. No idea... I’ll just see how it goes.

Cheers,
-Chris.
