Cockpit Tool Tips

Featured Replies

Maybe a stupid question - but how the **** do you turn them off?

Yes they are frustrating aren’t they. Hopefully the option to turn them off is not too far away.

They can make it quite difficult to interface with the cockpit.

No idea why there is not option to turn them off - its the first thing for looking for in the options.

But the sim is so good so happy to live with it 😀

Bad and in a way unprofessional because it is quite obvious that that function must be able to be switched on and off.

The entire UI of the sim is atrocious from a usability perspective... they keybinding alone is so bad, and don't even get me started on the camera system.

Thats so weird. I hate having them.

This is far from the finished article (10 years to go remember!) so there will be a lot of "Quality Of Life" adjustments to be made, same goes for any Continuously Developed Simulator/Game, so whilst some may seem obvious in the grand scheme of things they're not that important.

In this case I'm sure it's on their list to do, if not it won't be long before it is.

I'm not sure I'd say it was atrocious, but I would say it's not particularly intuitive in many places. I would have thought for example, it might have been nice to include a few 'migration' template presets in there, whereby you could have the GUI and Keyboard shortcuts emulate other popular sims such as XPlane or FSX, because the GUI for changing keyboard shortcuts is all over the place and not intuitive at all, so this would have been a good way to get people up to speed fairly quickly in introducing features.

Adobe does this with its main applications, usually including a keyboard shortcut set which emulates competing applications of a similar type, so it's definitely doable, and I've always thought that was a great idea to assist with transitioning from one program to another.

I'm sure it'll be okay when we all get used to it, and they tweak it a bit, but there are many things I personally would have done differently, not least of which is the overlaid instruments on the external view, which should be able to be easily moved, hidden, minimised or rearranged with the mouse. We've had computer mice since the 1970s and they're not going away, so this is not an unusual concept!

On the plus side, the mouse GUI in the cockpit is pretty well done though, but there's room for improvement in many areas certainly.

I have been in the alpha since the beginning and I used to feel the same way. However I have come around to a degree. Maybe because I have set it up so many times now it is just familiar. Not saying there isn’t room for improvement here though.

I wonder if we had cut our teeth on this and then someone offered us FSX or P3D what we would be saying. It will be really interesting to hear people’s comments 6 months down the track when familiarity with the UI has increased.

Another very annoying thing is this arrow that shows the toolbar at the top of the screen. As soon as the mouse moves, it becomes visible. The fact that it cannot be removed means that it destroys the experience of a simulator and reinforces the impression of an X-box game
