I guess I have to wait

Two days before the release of MSFS my brand new Alienware crapped out on me. They will send me a replacement, but not until late October. All to say that I have been missing all the fun associated with the game’s bugs but having my hardware issues. Hopefully,  these issues get resolved soon and you guys get to enjoy the sim. But I wonder how the beta testers did not catch all these issues before the release.

First and foremost, I hope you get your PC before then! When my internet goes offline, or my PC is getting a big update, I feel like a caveman. Despite growing up with far less tech than we have now.

Second, there is a kinda angry post that's been made about the same thing you have asked, "How did the beta testers not catch these issues before release"? The answer I have for that is: the testers (estimated to be around 12K-16K) were reporting bugs. The testers were making forum posts on bugs big and small from the beginning of Alpha till the end of the beta. The consensus from Avsim members was that the 12K-16K testers were for stress testing. Asobo's internal test team did the real testing. For example: the 787 was not in the alpha or beta so who tested it?

Lastly, and pure conjecture at this point, folks are assuming that Asobo had to release on the 18th. It has been said that MS forced an earlier release for several reasons (no proof of said reasons). Whether to recoup development costs or something else, I haven't seen proof either way.

Asobo has published their upcoming road map. They have said they are committed to fixing bugs. With the way current software development and release has been over the last few years, it seems to me we are looking at business as usual. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of FSX development (where they close the studio prematurely).

Huascar,

Reading between the lines (NDA does not permit comment) they very much did and a lot of these problems were ignored or simply placed in a "to do" basket.

I believe there are quite a few very frustrated beta testers out in the world.

Many problems as this forum will attest to but let us not ignore the potential if and when they fix it.

Thanks for the interesting insight. I have been out of the flight simulation adventure for some time, and just learned about MSFS 2020 back in June. According to most of the posts  I read, it was due to be released late this year, and  I was very surprised to learn about the 18 August release date.

I’ll just add that people will lose interest very fast if the stuttering is as bad as it’s been reported. It looks like even the high end CPUs and GPUs are getting crushed by MSFS. But in addition to the strutting, there’s been installation issues, and problems with the controls and autopilot. By all accounts, it has been a comprehensive disaster. Granted, I have not had the opportunity to experience the fiasco myself as I do not have a computer. Imagine, you spend $2800 for a PC to play a sim that may not work properly.

There is an old saying, software sells hardware."  This was true when I started in computing in the mid 1960s, and it appears true today.

I'm running an old 4790K/GTX970 combo and have no stuttering at all. On high settings the FPS is more than acceptable (30-50 in most conditions). I can even run with Ultra settings and still see no stuttering even though the framerate drops down to as low as 14. I don't know what the issues being reported about the stuttering are all about but I just wanted to let you know that not everyone has the problem.

I wonder if conducting a poll would be a good idea to assess the overall experience. It’s possible that there may be many people out there not having these issues, and would rather respond to a poll than  to create a post detailing their positive experiences.

It is still Summer outside, so there are other things to do than sitting in front of a computer all day... I'm waiting a month or two also before I get my hands on this sim, and hopefully it will be patched and in better shape than now.
