Apology For Post About Next Beta Version

Featured Replies

I want to apologize for my somewhat spiteful post about the next beta version.

I was venting my frustration a bit in regards to all the problems I'm reading about daily with the new sim.  Although I predicted that there would be bugs and unresolved issues, hence my calling it a Beta version, I honestly didn't think it would be this bad.  I've also counseled patience and expressed my optimistic view that the issues will get resolved in due time.  However, the sheer number and nature of problems reported here compelled me to take a more negative stance.

I know that there are some here who love the new sim, but it looks to me like the number of negative posts far outweigh the positive ones.  There's no doubt that the scenery is beautiful, which many of the positive posts focus on, but there's a lot more to a true flight simulator than scenery.

Anyway, I haven't bought it yet, so what do I know, right?  I"m planning to get it in December, by which time I really hope that most of the glaring issues will have been resolved.

I should be more optimistic and just be glad that we even have a new simulator.  Things will get better over time.

That's more to do with the squeaky wheel getting the grease. It's why companies have a complaints department, but even those that do great all the time don't have a lovely compliments department, because people aren't as well motivated to comment when satisfied, as they are to b*tch about things when unhappy.

First tip.  Do not be swayed by the negative posts you read about the sim or anything else for that matter.  MSFS is the future and I'm loving it.  If you like flying tubeliners then you might want to stick with p3d for a while, I dunno.  I generally fly ga and its superb.  Not perfect but what is?  I have p3d installed still but haven't yet thought about going back.  The immersion with msfs far outweighs the bugs, of which there are plenty (but aren't there always?).

For example, the flak that Orbx got about their London scenery was blown out of all proportion.  Its a fact of life that people will complain more readily than praise.

And to be honest, you should not be "venting your frustration" about a product that you haven't even bought or tried yet, what's that all about.  Try it and see for yourself.

I like the sim but it shouldn't stop us from "critique" of the product, if critique will make the product better then I'll critique it. As for me I'm not calling it a beta but I have no problem calling it an early access product.

True, but not actually owning the product and critiquing it is a different matter entirely. Would you review a film you haven't seen?

maybe the positive one just enjoying flying the sim, counting the neg posts here have you seen how many live players flying right now 😅

The forum in no way is representative of my own experience with the new sim, I'm honestly throwing my hands up at some of the stuff being posted on here.

I've done a few IFR hops in the UK in the 172, a short flight in the TBM and sitting here planning a TBM flight to Schipol. It's been absolutely phenomenal with a few honestly minor bugs with the ATC and with the TBM panels.

I'm genuinely glad I decided to try it out for myself. I had written it off because I thoughf it would be FSX performance problems and endless tweaks all over again.

If I'm being honest right now I'm finding AVSim to be out of touch and out of date. Finally something genuinely exciting, next gen and actually value for money for flight sims and it's like a cloud of gloom.

Seriously just try it for $1, or have a look at the reddit forum where folks have embraced it, are posting charts,  better checklists (found one there for the TBM), and videos where they are actually enjoying it and getting immersed.

Imagine that.

Nothing new really, when FSX launched, Avsim was like the 'slag it off' forum, same with each new version of P3D. And so on. Not everyone is guilty of it, but many are. Not sure what people want from something that costs as little as a quid and clearly has massive potential.

Do you have a link to the particular Reddit forum?

Wow! Two clickbait-titled posts in as many days. Is there a way we can have a special MSFS Trolls forum for those that want to glow about previous-gen sims or whine incessantly about this one? Because it's getting pretty disgusting having to scroll through posts like this when the vast majority of MSFS users haven't had any trouble at all. It's like the OP has never been in a forum before right after software is released. It always feels like the sky is falling until you realize how few people are actually complaining about anything. The vast majority are too busy enjoying the best simulation of any kind ever developed by humans. And the repeated whining about the same things when the first patch is just days away shows what their real agenda is. Nice non-apology apology. You should run for office.

Oh I remember FSX launch well! In fact someone on reddit today had screenshots of AVSim posts from that era, they are exactly the same juvenile nonsense.

FSX deserved a lot of criticism to be fair, purely from a technical perspective it was a legacy single thread program when dual cores had been around for I'm sure well over a year and probably longer. Disaster.

This thing is a different animal. It'll scale with hardware and cores. It's a very modern and slick piece of work. It is not what I was expecting from a Microsoft flight sim.

Its "beauty" is beside the point. The main thing is that it is REAL, 3D, and covers the entire earth. Never been done before in a sim! And there really is not anything more important than scenery in a flight simulator, not for me anyway.

I admitted that it was a mistake to post what I did.  What I said was provocative and bound to get a lot of negative reaction.  I wouldn't call my posts "clickbait" as they weren't deceptive or designed to benefit me somehow.

It's also not "a few people" complaining.  Like it or not, there a lot of problems, more than I anticipated actually.  Anyhow, what you call "whining" another person may call "legitimate complaint or critique".  If we don't complain and demand better products and services, then nothing will ever improve.

I've been involved in flight simulation for about 35 years, and have been active in this forum for over 10 years.  I've had my share of debates with others in this forum and have also criticized some things when I felt it was justified, but some of the time I also try to be helpful.  I've also spent hundreds of hours creating freeware scenery for FSX and uploaded my work to AVSIM.  I'm anything but a troll.
