From the end user perspective how are we supposed to know? We spent over $100 on a simulator with an in game marketplace that unless you read private forums and dig in the trenches is obviously inferior to what's really out there..  I'm 43 years old, I'm over having to dig through private forums, Reddit, Developer updates and  my Dukes Of Hazzard lunchbox from middle school to find a solution to a problem in all intent and purposes shouldn't even exist..   From a normal persons perspective if they download an addon from the MarketPlace that clearly credits FlightBeam and the product is flawed.. We're going after FlightBeam not Microsoft..  Even though this is NOW clearly a Microsoft problem with their inferior and circus like update/addon delivery system.

Anyways, hopefully Asobo speeds the renovation up because 3rd parties are taking the bullet for them.

Yeah.. I'm in one way embarrassed by this thread because in the end it was clearly not FlightBeams fault, but again I'm not. I'm an adult I can take my lickings but seriously how in the ever loving heck is the average end user supposed to know any of this? It's amateur hour on Microsofts part and shouldn't be.. Yet here we are..

Glad it was a simple fix once identified....nothing more maddening than getting new software and it's not working!   I too had the same notion that I would only buy from the in-sim store, as this is "supposed" to be the most dependable way to do it.

However, I'm changing my tune now after thinking things through.  For reputable devs...like FB is in every form of the word, if they take the time to make good installers outside the Microsoft playpen, I think that is a subtle hint that while, not directly saying the in-store sim is rubbish, use our installer for 2 reasons: 1. we've fine turned it to work with our product, 2. when we post an update to our released software, you'll get it instantly through our installer....MS's "Marketplace"...well...MS prioritizes wildfires, and right now the Marketplace is a warming plate compared to the raging infernos elsewhere in the release. 😉 

In fact, when I think more about it...this is something I do with hi-fidelity aircraft...ALWAYS buy from the dev, not Simmarket or elsewhere because they might sell it $2 cheaper.  When a patch or update is available...you can bet its available to you there 1st, and the other marketplaces "later".

 The in-sim Marketplace seems the most logical place for purchases.  Maybe a year or two down the road when all this has stabilized it will be the best place?

 

Good to know that the OP fixed his issue. I was going to ask if the new Central from 29Palms was used to install.

I'll remember to disable the Asobo version if i decide to upgrade.

I'm 58 years old...and like you...so way past wanting to wade thru forums to find a solution to what should have never happened.  

I like how you reckon us simmers to "a normal person" 🤣  You've been a simmer long enough to know that we instinctively suspect we'll have to come to the forums after dropping our credit card info if the history of simming is any barometer.  But I've seen with this new version, we may be doing way less of that because it looks as though...if the devs conform to the SDK, literally everything not part of the sim goes in the "Community" folder.  What an awesome concept, and so far the little updates I've been grabbing from github from modders who are taking the time to fix what MS/AS missed (not complaining here)....its a drag and drop into the Community folder and I'm done. 

Apparently (OMG Thankfully) gone are the days of renaming BGLs, adding excludes, moving scenery areas up and down a list, landclass, mesh...you name it....every time a 3rd party dev makes scenery that conflicts with either the default scenery or scenery from another dev. 

I think (again if the devs follow the SDK), all of that data is either in an xml or json that gets read and included in the folder you just drop in the Community folder. (I'm not an expert...nor do I need to be!, but I think it works something like that. 🙂 )

Anyway...I hope we'll see a revolution in how Devs promote their wares to the community, and we'll become more consumers than earning a Doctorate in Simming Configuration. 😄 

And admit it...you only bought the Dukes of Hazard lunchbox for Daisy Duke. 😁
