Your video resolution is a huge factor that hasn't been mentioned here.  I suspect that 6GB is enough to run v5 at 1080p without much of a trip down the slippery slider slope, but you'd be smack in the middle of the danger zone at 1440 and above with 6GB of VRAM.

The current version of v4 is v4.5 HF3 (aka v4.5.14.34698), and if you don't already have P3D, that's the version of v4 you'll get.  There were some suggestions to use older versions like v4.4 and v4.5HF2, which isn't an option if you don't have it already, nor would it really even be desirable over the final v4 release.

There are some compatibility issues still with v5--anything using True Glass or Real Light is still problematic (e.g. Leonardo Maddog, TFDI 717), and if you frequent the buffed-up airfields in the ORBX freeware airport packs, quite a few of those airports don't work in V5 and aren't planned to be updated.  Most of the third-party airport v5 compatibility issues I've encountered are related to needing new excludes for the default scenery, as most of the airfields were re-done in v5 and the old sign/building excludes designed for v3-4 may not work due to default objects being added/moved.  That's usually fairly easily fixed with a little ADE work, plus iniBuilds has published a long list of compatibility fixes for a wide range of airfields already.  I also think the AA in v5 still needs some work, as I have some issues with flickering runway/taxiway edges and lines (a likely DX12 issue).

I run both v4.5 and v5 here, and am trending more towards v5 as more of my add-ons have been updated.  But v4.5 is still the most universally compatible and stable, owing to its long tenure.

I really can't recommend one over the other--it will depend on what's important to you.

well, in my personal opinion the question if V4 or V5 isn´t asking indeed. It´s like to ask if better to buy Win 7 or WIn 10. Yes, the latest V4.5 is as good and stable as it could at a certain point, but in fact it will NOT been developed any further. V5 has a new renderengine relying on DX12 and other features. And this is something noticable in case of performance. May be for one more then for another, depending on the individual system. But it makes indeed a lot of fun flying smooth without stutters even in high dense areas like EGLL or EDDF with demanding Airliners.

I´am using V5 in legacy mode (without EA) and combined with ASP3D, ENVSHADE and ORBX it´s outstanding so far.

it´s EA which is in use.😉 The clouds can be set manually or you use ActiveSky for P3D beta.

Any rumored timeline regarding TS out of the beta?

No, look for Oct-Dec window or Spring/2021. This integration is complex.
