1080 Ti to 2080 Ti upgrade user help please

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I have the nvidia 1080 Ti (11GB) , I am tempted to upgrade to a 2080Ti but I am not sure if I there are major gains, as the 1080 is not being used to its pull potential .

I will be grateful if anybody who has done this upgrade would share their thoughts.

Most comments advise to wait for the 2030's,but their price is way beyond my means.

Many thanks.

Be happy to take that 1080ti off your hands. PM if interested.

You are going to pick up somewhere between 15% and maybe 40% depending what you are doing and which particular cards we are talking about.  In other words the improvement ranges from barely noticeable through to worthwhile/reasonable depending on the scenario.

The biggest plus of the 2080ti will be ray tracing and DLSS but obviously that is an advantage ONLY IF you need those capabilities.  Neither of those are implemented in the current version FS2020.but may be eventually.  Though to be honest a 2080ti might struggle in FS2020 with ray tracing enabled we need to wait and see how well that is implemented.

If 3080's are too expensive consider just waiting and seeing what the cheaper 3070 and 3060 cards look like. The 16GB 3070 in particular looks very interesting.

What screen resolution / settings do you play at? What CPU do you have? If your CPU is holding you back currently there might not be much point upgrading to a 2080ti.

I upgraded from a 2070 super (roughly comparable to the 1080ti) to a 2080ti and think I got about a 25-30% increase. I'm using a 3800X at the moment.

From the scalpers that bought 100s at a time and put them on ebay at double the price 😄

All the more reason to wait a few months till the dust settles. Apparently the "Super" versions of these cards as well as the 3060's and 3070's are due out sometime around Q1 2021 which is only 2 months away now.
