I’ve certainly noticed the HUD is a lot smoother for me in P3D V5.1 vs 4.5 , but if it’s limited to 18hz then it’s probably just that the performance boost has allowed it to get to 18hz, my 4.5 set up was probably not quite there.

This add on is to me a bit of a flawed genius, there are loads of little features hidden away and correctly modelled in there which require a detailed knowledge of the aircraft to spot, it’s really quite impressive.

And yet the major day to day features like LNAV/VNAV are at times unusable. 
 

Having said that it’s probably down to the way I’m flying it. I’m using it in a similar way to the way we use the level D sims... airborne from one airport , either return or divert enroute followed by various different approaches and generally just conducting various exercises in the local area.

LNAV/VNAV don’t seem to like that much, I’m sure if you Just program a route from A to B and stick to it you’ll be fine. To be fair other high end add ons eg PMDG don’t particularly like this sort of thing either and also get confused. I guess it’s the way the FMCs are simulated compared to their real world counterparts.

All in all though it’s a very good add on for the money and it’s still being developed further.

It's not as big a problem as some make it out to be, its not like it is flickering. Sure it could be better, I have made some suggestions to the QW Team myself. At the end of the day it is still my favorite plane to fly.

I know they are aware of the problem.  I've read in their forums before that they've said things like if it's easy to fix they wouldn't have fixed it by now.  So that tells me they don't know how to

Having defended QualityWings' support in the past (which used to be great) I have noticed that in recent months it has become far more patchy on their forum, many requests for help do not get a response. I suspect the developers are now working on the MSFS launch so be aware that any issues with P3D 5 onwards are likely to be effectively ignored. If you buy and have problems, consider asking for a refund rather than banging your head against the wall trying to get support / fixes which may never come.

I agree their support level has gone down recently, probably due to their focus on MSFS, which to me at this time is not necessarily a bad thing. I'd rather they focus on MSFS if they had to focus on only one sim.

As someone else mentioned it does have a some really nice features that may not be well known, but are quite usefull (ex Jump Ahead).

Combine those with getting all the 787 variants, plus the EFB  (in some other products these would be part of an expansion pack that costs extra), its an overall good deal for the price IMO.

 

Just to update on compatibility, based solely on my own personal experience you understand , nothing official...

P3D V5.0 - works ok

P3D V5.1 - works ok but has the dark textures issue in the VC, Turning the storm light on helps a little

P3D V5.1 HF1 - constantly causes a CTD shortly after initialisation, NOT compatible.

did you try turning off real light off and true glass  ??

 

 

I believe so, the 787 installation was left untouched when I installed the HF so everything is as it was (I think) There’s been no issues with the same 787 installation in 5.1 & 5.0 , just the HF causing CTD

real light and true glass are known to make the qw 787 ctd.  check the DLLS are renamed so they dont load up

I’ve just done that, updated the graphics driver, deleted shaders and cfg file and re installed 5.1 HF client... and now all seems good with the 787 or at least I’ve managed 2 circuits without a CTD so it’s at the very least an improvement!
