QW B787 : a couple of questions before buying

Featured Replies

Hi mates,

I own the PMDG 777 and I am considering to get the QW B787.

1. I know there is an option to get HD displays. Is there a huge difference with the 'standard' display?

2. It seems to me that there is an option to change the colour of the PFD (I'm refering to the blue for sky and brown for earth). Is that correct?

3. I'm very used to the PMDG system for Fuel, payload, ground equipment management, aircraft and simulations options, etc.... All is done conveniently through the FMC. I'm wondering if it's the same for the QW787 or is it managed by several external utilities?

4. Is is possible to load a .rte file generated by PFPX? (in the same manner as for for the PMDG 777)?

Thanks.

1) Yes I notice a distinct difference

2) Not sure, someone else probably knows.

3) You can do this in their EFB, not that different than in the 777 CDU interface.

4) Yes you can browse stored routes in the 787 CDU and load them. (PFPX has a dedicated export-feature for the QW 787)

2 - yes, in the config file

3 - fuel and payload are set in the EFB--doors, GPU, chocks etc are all controlled using a popup window.

Also, be aware that the display refesh rate is limited to no higher than 18 Hz, so the displays will appear somewhat jerky in comparison the the PMDG ones, especially noticable during climb/descent and on large format displays.

Isnt there an option to change this in expense of fps in the config? I forgot about it

Great point. That 18hz deal is probably the single reason why I only fly this plane once or twice per year. Some don’t notice or aren’t bothered by it. But for me it’s extremely annoying.

There is, but setting the "GaugeRefreshRate" value to anything higher than 18 in the QW787.cfg file just results in having the value capped at 18 Hz, which is the native P3D gauge system refresh rate.  It's possible to make a gauge that displays at a higher refresh rate (and with much smoother movement) by interpolating the data from the gauge system.  It's certainly done quite effectively in other advanced add-ons.

What a bizarre decision. So even if you have a 3090 that can handle pretty much anything thrown at it the 18Hz rule still applies? I’ve been debating whether to get this aircraft but that has killed it for me. The PMDG737 is limited to 25 and that appears a little jerky so I couldn’t cope with 18.

The Vertx Diamond DA62 has twin G1000 displays and is totally fluid.

If you're prepared to wait (could be a while), PMDG have some "mystery" project that they haven't announced - maybe that is a 787?

One thing I’ve noticed with the ngxu is the scrolling refresh rate has radically improved.

Given it would cost me 80 USD I’m in no rush. The 737NGX is okay in v4.5. No desire to switch to v5.

I've never noticed the refresh rate for the displays being low in the QW787. It's my favorite addon. 🙂

Nice aircraft the 787 qw, but needs some updating.

I would  never buy from them again, their support page is atrocious.

You can manually adjust the PFD colors to your liking with the 787.cfg. Just add these configs then adjust.

PFDSkyColor=R,G,B          --------------->>>>    Use custom RGB sky color on PFD
PFDSGndColor=R,G,B        ---------------->>>    Use custom RGB ground color on PFD

If you just had a flight in PMDG´s bird with 25HZ you sure can see the speedtape/attitude differents with 18HZ during climb/landing.

Its like the "low refreshrate" option in MSFS2020 (yaks its jaggy)
