My impression MS2020

Recommended Posts

Well, I have just flown x-plane's Rotate MD 80 from CYQQ to CYXX and then I tried to repeat the flight in the Boeing 787 in MS2020.  Wow, I sure feel sorry for the passengers in the 787. The climb out under FMS control varied from a 9000 ft climb at 120KT to a dive at 2000ft with speeds up to 300Kts. We sort of got to the cruise altitude which was supposed to be 17000 but continued the wild variation of 5000ft climbs followed by -8000ft dives. Things got exciting as we tried to set up and fly the approach to RW 07 at CYXX. The approach angle was 30 degrees off to the left The IlS never engaged so we overflew the runway but with the AP turned off the aircraft had a mind of its own and was unresponsive to my input so we crashed near Sumas. Must say the scenery was magnificent. Found the weather strange as the METAR said 18005KT P6SM OVC030 -RA but the sky was beautiful with a few clouds in the sim using real weather.

I don’t know how many people fly the Rotate MD80 but I find it challenging, instructive and entertaining. I developed my own checklist using the program XChecklist so I start cold and dark at the CYQQ ramp. It takes me about 20-30 min from start to taxi and you had better do it right or it won’t work. After takeoff, the aircraft follows the route but you have to set it up correctly. Where available I use real-world SIDS and STARS. I try to fly as realistically as possible. The MD 80 behaves well but and you need to watch the speed on approach however with normal pilot skills, a productive flight is achieved.

I don’t know where MS2020 is going. I find the small aircraft easy to fly and the scenery spectacular. It sure makes you realize how big the world is! Hopefully, developers will develop airliners that approach the reality of the real world. Hope I can afford to buy them

Really? Rotate MD-80 is one of the top 3rd party add ons for XP11. You compare with MSFS stock airliners which very well known are broken at the moment. What is the point of your comparison?

Perhaps try the FBW A320? It's still not quite to the level of payware (in terms of systems or flight model) people might be used to from P3D/FSX (can't speak of X-Plane) but it's very good and in the context of MSFS 2020 very immersive. Some of the most enjoyable simming experiences I've ever had.

My impresion MSFS 2020 and your comment.

I have been flying with msfs2020 since day one and I could never go back. You make an unnecessary comparison with a default 787 by default and a Rotate 80.. Yes there are things to improve and the 787 is one of them. But with MSFS there is no longer this effect of being on a railroad track until arrival and I wouldn't talk about the weather either you are using, which has very little influence on you super realistic MD 80.So easy to pilot in its conditions. It's filled with script. The only thing that is realistic is your imagination .MSFS  weather is progressive, the wind pushes you out of your path and you slip without even realizing. And when you realize your skidding the weather has already changed.Unbelievable imperceptible surprise. The MSFS weather engine is arguably the most modern weather engine ever created.Everything I have known in the past is at the level of ridiculous.

In terms of small MSFS aircraft of piloting you will have to dive into information,  manual and MSFS settings also.In msfs you cannot let go of the stick too much even if you want to take the time to applaud MSFS for its modernity.

The MSFS potential is definitely astronomical.

Yeah fly the XP-11 default MD80 and get back to us with your comparison. LMAO

" In msfs you cannot let go of the stick too much even if you want to take the time to applaud MSFS for its modernity.  "

15 minutes of tuning flightmodel.cfg and the MSFS small planes seem to me much easier to control and more like real life.  I don't know why but 3rd party payware MSFS planes sometimes also require the same treatment.

I avoid all 10 Premium MSFS planes, because I can't do the quick modifications (reducing rudder, elevator, and aileron 'effectiveness' number). In other words they do not fly like real life planes and you have to fight the controls all the time. They are more like defectiveness numbers.

Sometimes also not just elevator effectiveness but even the elevator trim effectiveness number is set by default unrealistically high (such as on the Cessna L19 Birdog bush plane fleet from BlackBox). Their trim wheel effectivenesses comes stock at 3.0 and should be about 1 to 1.5 or so to make it seem real, in my opinion.

If anyone is going to adjust flightmodel.cfg you can see the change effectives 'on the fly' without rebooting the sim using the method here (the robert young message). One of his menu items in mislabeled (resync is in the Tools menu). But as he says you must have a dummy project open first, so just click 'new project', then click Tools...resync, and then click to close the dummy 'new project' without saving it, and click close the aircraft editor. With practice the whole procedure takes about 10 seconds. Rebooting MSFS takes minutes.

Could you rename the topic, "My impression of the XP11 RotateSim MD80"

This is really good one!!! 😄

Well, if this whole topic "off-topic" I want to say that currently all airplane add-on market frozen. Seems all developers doing something for FS2020 but very quietly and secretly.

SDK the last developers problem. IMO, the first problem lack of a new coders who know how to create new addons in the unfamiliar FS2020 development environment.

Don't worry too much.

My only issue with MSFS, as far as the flight dynamics go, is the RC plane feel. 2% rudder input gives 100% rudder result. The inertia of a 250,000 lb aircraft is what I'd expect from a 2.5 lb aircraft. This twitchiness is visible in all aircraft in all conditions at all times. Once Asobo finds the little "inertia" and "lift coefficient" variable and tweaks it, this game will jump ahead 200 spots in terms of realism.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
