The fact MS is>surely using FSX to promote the switch to Vista, at least>makes for some hope the patch should be of some substance, not>just some missing bridges here and there...No, you won't. The update will certainly include many bug fixes as well as DX10 compatibility bits. Obviously, the DX10 bits won't be of immediate benefit unless you purchase Vista and a DX10 video card, but everyone will gain something from the update...

I hate to break it to you but the reality is you don't actually know whether hardware will catch up and be able to run FSX or not. You post like you're an authority on the future of hardware and FSX but really all you're posting is pure conjecture. We've already had people post about big improvements to the sim with only the addition of RAM. What's to say DX10 won't have a positive impact on the sim, once it's patched for it? For all anyone really knows it could have a tremendous benefit. Once FSX is patched for DX10 there's no knowing at this point if FSX will rely as much on pure processor performance.Who's to say there won't be other hardware developments that will greatly enhance the performance of the sim?Like I said you don't know for sure, you're really just speculating. I'm enjoying FSX and there's an enormous potential for add-on developers, without a FPS hit. There's the potential for a product like Ground Environment that will look far better than it did in FS9, thanks for the engine allowing 1m textures. That will clearly have no FPS hit. There's the potential for amazing looking aircraft thanks to bump-mapping, which will also have a 0 fps hit. There's the potential for aircraft with never-before seen flight dynamics, thanks to the improved flight engine and airmass modelling, which will also have a 0 fps hit. There's the potential for an unlimited new number of amazing missions, with the only limit being the imagination. As for more detailed scenery, like I said there's no reason DX10 (with associated rendering patch) and more RAM in itself won't cater for it.Stop being so paranoid and enjoy the sim. You might actually be surprised what the future brings.James

quite dated? LOL!you are running SLI with 2 of the fastest video cards out there and I think the 2nd fastest single AMD processor out there

I'll agree with you on that one.Ian.

That is my hope. So if Vista and DX10 patch are the answer to some of the FSX whoes , I'll take it. For myself FSX HAS to have room for good addons! Cybersimmer

I love your optimism. I really do hope you're right, but your wishing versus actual hardware roadmaps out there for the next couple of years aren't exactly aligning. Gary

Ismet, How many posts do you need to make in order to insure that you keep letting us know you don't like FSX. You recently made one stating "I see that freeware developers are are clamouring to get their new creationsinto the FSX library not! Yet another indication, as if it were needed, that FSX is a thanksgiving turkey, or is that too insulting to turkeys and thanksgiving? Not intended. We FSX whinegers and complainers were right then. . . . The politest I can be is that FSX will go down in history as 'problematical"Best wishes from the UKIsmetM You should really receive some type of award for a person that likes to speculate on what will work and won't before it even happens thus just stirring the "I hate FSX" pot more than it allready has been. I believe I would call it the "1st Annual Ismet Moron wrapped in an Idiot" award. And by the way Thankgiving is usually capitalized. Respectfully yours, Craig

Vista's sound mixer is completely software now (dont ask me why ... DRM ?) So all your CPU performance gain over graphics will be used for sound thingies. Hopefully you'll have the same average performance than with XP.PS: sorry for my English, french inside ;)

Well said! I think the OP's user-name gives away a lot about the user!James

Personal insults have now arrived :-roll

The one addon I am waiting for is the PMDG 747 for FSX. If by some miracle a PC can be found that gives 20 fps plus with that addon at a highly detailed airport with say 75% plus AI and autogen plus a bit of weather (ie what I get now in FS9 with the PMDG 747 on my lowly AMD3700+) then I will be convinced about the future of FSX for serious heavy iron flyers.Bruceb
