November 22, 20205 yr They aren't ideal for it, but they can be operated on short-ish grass strips, and as long as the runway is half a mile long or so (depending, of course, on altitude/DA) and not muddy, they can do it. November 22, 20205 yr Irl you would very much care about costs. While the performance would easily allow for shorter runways I doubt you would take it to unpaved runways on a regular basis. Unfortunately I don't own one, but even in my flying club we are very careful when it comes to the impact of unpaved runways to the landing gear. And considering the complexity of retractable undercarriages, I would think there's a reason such airplanes as the Cessna Caravan and Quest Kodiak with their fixed gear exist. And then there's the danger of FOD (foreign object damage) to the engine. But tbh I took the TBM to some flights in the African bush in MSFS - it's a game - and it's fun! November 22, 20205 yr Answer to original question. Can TBM (assuming 800 and up models) function as bush plane! My answer is YES, but only once! After landing gear collapse contacting with uneven surface it will become just regular geared up plane with a prop strike.
