Just a STONZ throw away

Featured Replies

Living in Dallas and sitting right between KDFW and Love Field, I get my share of airline flights directly overhead.

When Dallas is favoring the north runways, I'm literally a stone's throw away (well....a few hundred yards..but you know) from the waypoint STONZ in the very popular BRDJE arrival from the North East.

The aircraft turn directly over my house (well almost) and with binocs....watching them and knowing they are at 11000 feet is really cool to see them crank it to the left to enter the downwind.  And over at Love, they are only a few thousand feet when they go over.  I decided to replicate the approach, and although the approach is for turbojets only...I told the controllers I was Steveo (well...I AM a Steve, LOL) and they just slid me in between the faster planes.

Still a while out...but you can see on my MFD in the center that I'm in the Conga Line of approaches into Dallas. 🙂   The yellow arrow is pointing to STONZ and where my house is.

 There is Addison airport, just a few miles from me.

There is Love Field off my left and the yellow arrow is pointing to right about where I'm typing this text from. 🙂

Safely on the ground at the FBO at KDFW.   What a great flight....except for the headwind. 😞

Nice shots Steve!  Dallas was sort of my second home for about 20 years due to work.  I actually kind of miss it.  Certainly do miss Esparza's.  Every now and then they would slip Everclear in your margarita's, probably still do.  I'm thirsty now. 🍹

I use to instruct out of Addison back in summer of 2013. I lived over by lake Lewisville.

that cloudscape looks amazing!

What time of day was it, Steve? I'm sure it's 4:20 somewhere... :wink:

My bad, stonz, not stoners... :biggrin:

Thanks Guys!

@DylanC yeah when I started working at the hospital near there, the local staff took us to Esparza's....a GV staple.

@ahsmatt7, its a nice airport....during spring/fall (pre-COVID), we sat on the patio at Chuy's on Belt Line and watch all the student's doing T&Gs.  Saw a lot of biz jets too....
Agree the atmosphere effects were jaw dropping that morning!  Love how the sim replicates it.

@HighBypass hehe....Its always 4:20 somewhere. 🙂
