December 22, 20205 yr Thanks...! I just saw it....had to walk around a bit outside, because I was blocked by a nearby house...amazing coincidence...!
December 22, 20205 yr Hopefully I will be able to see this tomorrow. It has been cloudy here all night.
December 22, 20205 yr I saw it a few nights ago when they were further apart, but unfortunately for the past few days Nova Scotia weather has cared not for the wonders of the universe and has been solid cloud. December 22, 20205 yr In spite of constant reminding...🙂...during the day....it took this post to send me outside in the cold...🙂... Glad I knew where to look (Southwestern Sky, it was)...was easy to spot...but quite low in the horizon, and, it was already dark...so, it helped... Just as the nice picture above, I saw bright Jupiter and less-bright Saturn...I wish I could say I could distinguish the ring of the Saturn...but, with my (bare) eyes alone I couldn't (not really 20/20 vision).... Good luck to those who might be able to see this double-planet tonight: "The great conjunction will be visible in the southwestern sky, above the horizon, after sunset. ... Tonight, both planets will appear to fuse as one, visible in the sky like a dim but distorted star. From tomorrow, the planets would move apart again as Jupiter overtakes Saturn in its orbit from our perspective."
December 23, 20205 yr They have been visible and working closer together for all of this month. Mars has been visible for two months and still remains very visible every night. James
December 23, 20205 yr One day late, but our skies cleared tonight and I was able to see almost the closest conjunction. It was still very impressive! As noted Mars has been very nice to look at in recent months as well, I've really enjoyed the opportunity to teach my daughter a bit about astronomy in real life. 6 hours ago, P_7878 said: I wish I could say I could distinguish the ring of the Saturn...but, with my (bare) eyes alone I couldn't (not really 20/20 vision) I wouldn't feel bad, I think you'd need something far greater than 20/20 to make out the rings of Saturn! You need a telescope for that.
