Don't forget the 3080 is using GDDR6X Vram while 6800 etc. is using GDDR6, you shouldnt neglect the higher speed.
So 10 GB VRAM in GDDR6X are not 10 GB VRAM in GDDR6.

Even if it uses it all doesn't mean it would be much slower with less, but it could be a bit more so if there is a memory leak (and I think there is). The 3090 is super expensive.

I guess it depends how far and long and at what resolution or render scaling you fly.

Theoretically. we shouldn't need to add more VRAM just because that is the max it can use as a cache, but given the issues in this sim we've seen thus far, it certainly wouldn't hurt. There are some things you can turn off to reduce VRAM that have almost zero effect on the visuals too, if you really need to.

Exact reason I opted for a 3090. Everyone said that it’s only 10% faster. I’ll take an extra 10% AND shed loads more vram thanks.

I just ordered one, should arrive in 2-3 days... I can't wait 😄

Yah, and the 3090's are about the only thing available at regular stores, and even then it's slim picking. Have not seen a 3060,3070, or 3080 outside of a pre-fab PC already built or a scalper.

Even a 2070/2080 is hard to find right now. Hopefully situation will improve in about 2 weeks. but it may take until March. I need to upgrade my CPU too.

Best Buy wants $1500 for founders edition. I'll wait till prices drop or my gpu dies.

Look at wattage draw too, it'll cost a lot more than that if you leave FS 2020 on all the time and factor in electricity over a 2-3 year period 🙂

Assuming the card by itself will draw more than the entire rest of the PC combined, especially with a game loaded.

I have a I9 10900k and it is a great cpu, but my bottleneck is my 2080TI, I will probably upgrade to an 3080TI when they are available, I run the game at 3440x1440, and for me a RTX 3090 will probably be a overkill.

True but someone buying a 3090 I imagine are not too concerned with this, I'm not.  its not an efficient card and I was aware of it.

BUT its good for you to point this out.

Yup, that's a lot of money to be spending on a video card, it's about 20% of your PPL cost after tax and all. That's quite a few hours in a real plane, well not quite a few, but a few.
