100% agree!!! i've never spent more than $500 on a video card up til now.  It is what it is......

True, over the years I've spent over $8,000 on my projector setup, but I'm running a measly $400 card. I am going to upgrade, but $650 is my max for the video card.

I don't just use the projectors for sim'n though. I wanted to do the full rounded projection setup to simulate real cockpit, but it's just too much trouble since i also use the projectors for movies. I would have to build out another room, and don't have the space.

Exact reason I opted for a 3090. Everyone said that it’s only 10% faster. I’ll take an extra 10% AND shed loads more vram thanks.

Unfortunately a 3090 is out my price range, at least for now, I'd need overtime to come back on at work (which is very unlikely until 2022) for me to be able to justify the larger cost than any of the adequate alternatives that should be available in the coming months.

Don't forget the 3080 is using GDDR6X Vram while 6800 etc. is using GDDR6, you shouldnt neglect the higher speed.
So 10 GB VRAM in GDDR6X are not 10 GB VRAM in GDDR6.

As @ChaoticBeauty pointed out in another thread that the Vram speeds are more or less equal when compared to the 3080's GDDR6X and the 6800 GDDR6 combined with it's infinity Cache, so memory wise the 6800XT would have the edge in this instance. The computing power might be the area of dispute.

There is also the fact that in the past AMD cards have had different tweaking settings required, and since market share is so much lower, it's harder to find optimal settings as easily as NVIDIA. Also, games aren't tested with AMD as well.

It's probably fine, but if price is the same, it's still a tough call given that the NVIDIA 3080 averages 15% faster in games than the 6800xt if basing it on UserBenchmark.

I might try the AMD, but it's in shortage just as bad as NVIDIA's so it seems. Typically speaking, games have always been optimized better for Nvidia even if you look at spec vs. spec on an evenly comparative level.

What we need is a reasonably priced NVIDIA with 16GB, but doesn't look like it's coming anytime soon.

AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram

Considering that there is a RTX 3080 TI  with 20 gigs of Vram in the works now it's probably not the best time to pick up a graphics card. I dont/wont have 1500 bucks to spend either considering that i also need to upgrade My cpu (3700x to 5900X) in order to balance out the card for the sim. So ill budget 1000.00 max for the card and 500 for the CPU. Hoping to get these parts second quarter of this year. I think after that im done for a year or so. In the mean time this 3700x and 2080 super overclocked to the hilt driving a 3440x1440p Ultrawide  is doing the job and i cant complain. Besides that now is a good time to ensure that the other essential components are up to task so you dont get any surprises once you get the heavy lifting parts eventually. Just received my 750 watt PSU and put it to the side. Next up is an AIO for cooling the CPU so i can get off this wraith prism.

The RTX 3080 Ti will pretty much be a replacement for the RTX 3090, so anyone looking to purchase the latter should wait. It will use the exact same chip, which means supply levels should be about the same.

This is usually the case with game-ready drivers and any games utilising proprietary NVIDIA technologies or CPU-heavy DirectX 11 games (as NVIDIA have optimised their DirectX 11 driver overhead very aggressively), but things are usually different in DirectX 12, with AMD gaining the lead in most cases. The new consoles will also probably help RDNA-based GPUs in the long run. Thanks to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, GCN 1.0 annihilates Kepler in today's games.

I wish I could have afforded a 3090. I find myself running out of vram in vr still at times.

Holy smokes $1500. Congrats and enjoy! Let us know how she performs.

Sure, I will post a video to show the performance in various heavy locations in the next days.

Thats IF its a founders edition not at scalpers pricing.  AIB's cost more.  I certainly didnt have the op to buy at msrp.  I have a asus strix 3090 enroute and I paid a PREMIUM $$$$

Yeah... I wish I was able to find a FE. Unfortunately where I live (Dubai) their availability is virtually zero, only once in the last 4 months I managed to spot one on the gray market and the seller asked more than 3,000 USD.

I bought (for about 1,900 USD, ouch!) the only one available, a PNY XLR8 Revel, of which however, I found good reviews speaking of thermals, noise and overclock capability. I will let you know what I think of it honestly, anyway it's a big jump from the 1080 Ti I have now.
