Very Old Timer, thinking about MSFS 2020

For VFR is definitely the best experience you can get. For IFR aka airliners, still not there but is getting there, examples:

- FlyByWire A320 mod is moving really fast towards a high fidelity airliner.

- WT CJ4 is even very close to be high fidelity in systems.

- Aerosoft CRJ will be released in this Q1 this year.

- QW787 will be coming second half this year.

- PMDG 737 they said it might come end of this year but I doubt it.

Also Aerosoft A320, other PMDG planes are coming to the platform. I think majestic dash would be announced. However nothing to be heard from FSLabs, I don't think they would come any time soon, maybe in few years? Who knows

Right now I am looking 2 pre builds. Past the stage where I want to build one myself. The two I am looking at are supposed to be pretty good ON FPS, both middle of the road gaming PC's.

Bobsk8,
You have a Microcenter store in Marietta.  You can pick and choose the components and they will build it for you, so you can tailor it to MSFS (and P3D).  They have a large build-your-own department with specialists to guide you, and their service department will do the work for you.  Just did that in early August here near Baltimore.  Also did the same with my previous system back in 2015.  Be the PIC, ha! Purchaser in charge...

You didn't tell us how old you really are but from your description I'm guessing we are about the same age.

PS, You may need a new computer. My specs should be in the signature. These run pretty well with no overclocking. I just passed my 80th birthday and am glad I have this to really exercise my brain. Best wishes.

I will be 81 in August. I am getting a PC with about the same specs as yours.

I have a PC with the 5700XT in as the GPU... it is fine at 1440P around 35 FPS on high. If you can stretch for a 2080ti... or better yet one of the pricey new cards you will be happy. My 2 cents... for what it is worth.

I am a frustrated pilot who never took time or had the money to get a real license. However, our son is a commercial pilot (works for company that works with the FAA) and his wife is a pilot for Delta. So at least I can discuss some rudimentary flying with them.

My final thought is if you just want to have fun "flying" this is the sim for you. If you want serious airplanes with serious procedures and a perfect experience you could be disappointed. It will get better and is now being updated once a month. Problems are being attacked over time and I believe it will soon be a perfect simulation for most of us.

At 72 here and other than some right seat ride-alongs over the past five years I have not actively flown since 1985.  I agree with your assessments.  I was instrument and twin rated and cannot get away from sim flying in all meteorological conditions.  MSFS falls short of FSX SE with addon avionics in that regard.  I enjoy MSFS for what it delivers, but as LnR stated, it is a work in process, and the areas I would like more progress with are moving along rather slow.  So in MSFS I fly mostly low and slow....

I will put in simple words! Just do it. Road to perfection is not without bumps, but on the bright side things slowly get better !
