February 3, 20215 yr Tangential to my original post about a rebuild & GPU pricing/shortages - I kept the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GPU in the new set up.( Screen resolution 1080. CPU: i7-10700F. 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM) GA aircraft run smoothly now on MSFS 'High' settings, but when I run MSFS DevMode/Options/Display FPS for a 787-10 at KLAX, the FPS is varying around 28 to 35 FPS, has the red vertical spiking lines, & the message , 'Limited by GPU' My query is, what factors in a replacement GPU would get rid of that message, [ie, the FPS would be lifted sufficiently in the above 787 scenario that 'Limited by GPU' would not appear]? For instance, would going to an 8GB GPU be enough? Anything else? Thanks T45
February 3, 20215 yr I think that GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GPU is borderline, the big issue is that the software is not properly optimized at the moment and has many issues. When DX12 will be available and MSFS, better optimized you could make a sound decision of what you really need, but from what you describing if you don't stutter you are quite OK. I'm on an I9 10900K @ 5.3 with RTX 3090 and still "limited by GPU" on a Dell 43" at 4K. Recently I got a new monitor XDR 32" retina display (smaller monitor) and there are the same issue as I had before. Now, P3D or XP11 runs without any issues, no stutters, no GPU fan kicking in, no issues at all. Well for these guys it took years to optimize the software, I have no idea what it will take for MSFS. If is the only message that you see is 'Limited by GPU' and runs smooth turn off DevMode/Options/Display, that's what I did because was driving me crazy. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
February 4, 20215 yr For GPU framerates in MSFS look at this chart, and the one for 1440 and 4K, should tell you all you need to know about GPU: your 1060 is a 19 fps, my 2060 super is a 34 fps at 1080p under identical conditions of this test. Once again, you can see the 1440 and 4K numbers too. The latest vid cards were not yet available at the time this chart was made https://www.techspot.com/article/2085-microsoft-flight-simulator-2020/ 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. And you still won't be able to find a video card, current or next generation, at anything less than scalper's prices! My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Yes but it`s not just GPU`s have seen the prices of the new motherboards next gen manufactures have pushed up prices, Gaming PC builds are going to get expensive in the future. Raymond Fry.

I know we complain about 30 series GPU prices, but the RTX 2080's were horrendously expensive to... and still are. You're talking 1000 quid or more. Way less powerful and still almost as expensive as 30 series.
February 5, 20215 yr When you have PC users willing to pay over 2 grand for a GPU you cannot blame the scalper`s for that , no pay prices drop. Edited February 5, 20215 yr by G-RFRY Raymond Fry.
