February 18, 20215 yr Someone is going to have some explaining to do... Could have been much worse! Two French military planes that flew very close to the ground have struck electrical lines and cut the power supply to a village in the south of France. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56113518 Edited February 18, 20215 yr by psolk Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
February 18, 20215 yr Indeed, the power company needs to explain why the electrical cables were so high above the ground. February 18, 20215 yr This sounds like a Pinocchio story of a "dedicated" mayor looking for attention. Usually when an airplane of that magnitude and speed hits and cuts the electrical wires ends up in a loss. I'm interested to know how the Parisians are so worried about the sonic boom noise when this Le Castellet, village is located just shy of 800 Km south of Paris. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

I'm interested to know how the Parisians are so worried about the sonic boom noise when this Le Castellet, village is located just shy of 800 Km south of Paris. Then why would the French Air Force Comment and apparently confirm the incident? "There were no casualties. This in-flight incident forced the pilot of the aircraft to land safely at 14:11 [13:11 GMT]" at the Orange air base, a French air force spokesperson told La Provence newspaper. They "deplore this extremely rare incident". So not sure where you came up with that accusation.... The Sonic Boom incident happened in September over the French Open when fighters were responding to a commercial jet. It's completely unrelated. Maybe next time read the articles? February 19, 20215 yr All I did is to question the statement that usually when an airplane hits the wires doesn't end too well. I hope that you can understand that. I was able to open the link with the sonic boom and yes that's a total different story completely not related to what that guy driving the car was saying. The way is written is deceiving especially when they talk about a small village in South of France and they mingle with a story that happened about 500NM north of that location at a different time. If you find the story credible that's your opinion, no problem but I don't. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

If you find the story credible that's your opinion, no problem but I don't. It's not confusing at all , you didn't read the articles clearly. They are two COMPLETELY separate stories, they didn't mingle anything. You also didn't question that when an airplane hits wires it doesn't end well. You called the mayor a liar and attacked him personally b/c you don't believe him or the statement by the French Air Force apparently. “The crew were unharmed,” Air Force spokesman Stephane Spet told AFP, adding that two Rafales were on a mission from their base in the east of France. Air Force spokesman Spet said an investigation had been launched and added that such incidents were “very rare.” Don't you think if it didn't happen the French Air Force would have denied it or said they were investigating, not acknowledged it and confirmed the plane was forced to land... Honestly, the only thing without credibility here is not the story... Yep, must just be Fake News and the French Air Force, the fire department and the Mayor are all clearly conspiring to make up a story. https://www.airlive.net/breaking-a-french-air-force-rafale-fighter-jet-has-hit-a-power-line-during-a-training-flight/ Could be a stock image but they also appear to show a picture of the damage. February 19, 20215 yr Paul, You are correct! I was wrong on my assumptions. Sometimes we eat "crow", about the mayor, he's fine.....I hope is not hurt as you are. 😉 All the best! 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

February 19, 20215 yr Been a couple of incidents in the UK. One was a Typhoon that broke the sound barrier over land, intercepting an aircraft. The other was a Hawk that was out being tested after maintenance. The pilot tested the envelope to the full and nudged over the sound barrier. The Hawk can of course reach Mach 1.2 in a dive. Personally, if it happened in my neck of the woods you would get no complaints, I would love it. 👍😁 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/breaking-norwich-sonic-boom-houses-23394200 Edited February 19, 20215 yr by martin-w

The jet(s) were not low enough, they were not fast enough.... and you did not inform me what time they'd be coming! Actually - I did once ring up the RAF in that regard some years ago: One evening the peace and quiet was shattered by a roar - these guys were subsonic hence there was some noise to alert me. Two fast movers, quite low flying between our village and the neighbouring fell to the south. I could see the cockpits lit up with the green glow. A couple of phone calls later and I was informed that they were a pair of Jaguars on a training sortie out of Leeming. I mentioned to them that I was not making a complaint...apart from what I stated above Rafales: Not just pretty, but pretty tough as well it seems! I stayed with family once in the Negev desert quite close to an IAF base. I have never heard so many sonic booms in my life. In fact, it's the only time I have ever heard them LOL. What's amazing is the intensity of the boom and looking up and struggling to see a plane anywhere... It was fascinating to see the distance from the plane to the timing of the boom and where I thought the sound was coming from. Apparently I would make a HORRIBLE anti-aircraft gunner!! February 19, 20215 yr If anyone recalls this incident back in 1998 when a USMC Prowler was low flying in Italy and struck the cable for a Gondola killing its 20 passengers.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavalese_cable_car_disaster_(1998) As they were outside of the designated training zone this sort of low flying was irresponsible, following that incident it should not be happening over civilian areas anymore Edited February 19, 20215 yr by Matthew Kane Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
