are you capitalising it?

needs the uppercase correct, NVIDIA not nvidia

ls -lh

to get a list of files in the current directory

Sorry. I'm done. It screwed up my bios again. Can't take anymore.  Thanks for trying. I guess I'll just have to make do with the XP performance.

nah I get it, I used to dread this bit everytime i did i reinstall, got a new motherboard, better boot disk etc, Ive done it enough times now that I'm familiar with it, but the first few drove me absolutely insane.

on the upside, once you get them installed everything else is simple by comparison, and you did well getting this far, most people see run level 3 and run a mile, ask what they should enter where it says username.

Well I might have another go at some point... I think, in hindsight, that what was knackering the bios was having to switch off the power to reboot the pc because I couldn't do a proper shutdown from the telinit 3 screen. But when I've ever done that in Windows it hasn't caused an issue like when there's a power cut. Strange. Hey ho. Once again, thanks for the ride.

Means it won't reboot. Even to Windows. There's all sorts of long pauses and bios messages saying I need to load set up defaults. I have to power down and restart go into the bios and perform a reset.

That's strange , it shouldn't do that.

Could be coincidental with it needing a new battery? I have no idea why it happened.

After you power off the system and turn it back on after awhile does it give you those issues ?

No. It was changes to the drive I'd installed Fedora on which was causing it.

Ah you mean only the boot issue , thought its causing issues also with the RTC and when you said it resets the BIOS to the default.

I mean the pc won't re-boot properly. It causes the bios to throw a fit requiring me to enter the bios, load defaults and save and reboot. I think it's because the bios has found changes to the Linux drive boot sector which requires it to be reset? Very nerve racking!😂 All back to normal now.

Now I can't stop fiddling. I've reinstalled Ubuntu to play with.😀

Same issue. It can't find the downloaded file when I try and install the NVIDIA drivers having logged into telinit 3? But it's definitely in the home directory. Something simple no doubt but what?

Drive booth sector will not force a BIOS reset.   LOl  ok.
