Everything was fine this morning; tonight I launched FS2020 as usual and it shows me the initial setup screen. All preferences and settings (including joysticks) are gone

There is a thread on the official forums linking this issue to MS GameService update.

Were you online when you entered the game? I think all settings are retrieved and stored in the cloud.

The crippling update hits again. This time it is a problem with gaming services. 

Hopefully nobody will try to say that this is not a showstopper.

Thanks for opening this thread.

I was going mad about this for 90 minutes now trying all kinds of things. Just before deciding to uninstall MSFS I found this thread and saw that it is not something on my end.

I hope this will be fixed soon.

I have the same problem, but besides the initial setup coming up, the control settings are still available, you just have to change the default profiles.

Confirmed, fortunately.

Nevertheless this is more than annoying. Apart from having to change everything on every start, some settings can only be changed by restarting the sim, for example the UI language. So changing those settings is impossible now.

All my custom cameras are gone as well. I hope they can be restored from the cloud after they will have solved this issue.

Apart from that there really should be a way to save/backup settings, controls and cameras locally on our own machines.

Agreed, it's a joke that it's not possible.

Some settings are stored local:

...C:\Users\blablabla\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache

There you'll find:

CAMERAS.CFG
FlightSimulator.CFG
UserCfg.opt

Even restoring these files sends me into the initial setup screen.

Seems, some important information is stored in the cloud.

You can tell this is a MS Asobo thing fix some things and break something else setup screen every time you start the sim joke!! 

Is it only MS store buyers who are affected by this? I use Steam and have not been affected .... yet.

I keep being put through a "new-user" startup, but none of the settings are getting saved.

Can't start in DevMode which is really annoying because I'm working on an airplane.

1 Uninstall gaming.service app via powershell
- open powershell as admin
- copy paste to powershell and press enter

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

2 Download MSIX_Commander v1.0.7.5
https://github.com/bergerpascal/MSIX_Commander/releases

3 Righ click and select run as administrator
4 Click Packaging Machine tab
- click enable developer mode
- stop services
- stop automatic store updates

5 Download Microsoft.GamingServices_2.50.5005.0

Run msfs and play :)
