People inside terminals

Featured Replies

Just curious.  Are they purposely trying to slow down our computers?  I'm trying to wrap my head around why they would add people (sometimes moving around) inside an airport terminal in MSFS.  How many of you have actually got out of your aircraft an gone inside to see what's going on.  I just think the resources could be better spent making the simulator work more smoothly.  I remember a long long time ago a I was getting such a kick out of taxiing a 747 around an airport when a friend of mine says to me "It's a FLIGHT simulator, not a TAXI simulator".  Can we save the people moving around INSIDE the terminal for the world simulator and make the flight simulator fly smoothly first?  Just a thought!

I don’t think I’ve seen people walking around in the default terminals...

If you’re talking about 3rd party developers, I’ve only ever seen that happening at small airports with fairly low load on hardware, but that’s just my observation; someone else may have noticed something similar at overwhelmingly large airports...

So you've gotten out of your aircraft and went inside to see the people?  🙂

I thought taxiing an aircraft is part of flying isn’t it?... I mean where do you draw the line, why have wing views when a pilot never would be in that position.

For me I like it aslong as it doesn’t tax resources too much of course.

So you've also gone inside to see the people.  Funny that no one has specified.  Don't worry we won't judge.

You have a good point and I also wonder about this often. Let’s face it, anyone taken a look in the back of the A320. It does not even have seats, let alone passengers, yet the airports are modelled so well inside. All credit to the devs but I would rather see more detail added outside, where it is visible from the flight deck.

I agree with the OP. I have been simming since FS5 and bought countless planes but never bought a single airport. From the cockpit I just don't notice the beautifully rendered road approach to the terminal or intricate building or apron details.

I suspect I miss 95% of the airport details on every departure or arrival.

However it doesn't mean I would be happy with FSX quality airports. I want some details. The default MSFS airports provide just the right amount of.detail. I dont need the details you have to pay for.

To be fair, seeing people in the terminals may potentially have a bearing on some flight sim operations if whether it is displayed is in relation to other stuff which is going on (that's the tricky part of course). If you could have people appear queueing at the gate when you're flight starts and disappearing into the jet bridge as they 'board', or walking out to the ramp and dumping their carry-ons at the airstairs, that would be very realistic, and you can see all that from the flight deck.

Similarly, if you could have some last minute passengers tip up at the gate running, then their bags come down the chute to the ramp, and some rampie walks over to the belt and slings those last bags on, then buttons the thing up and you hear the headset guy after doing the walkaround say that the GSE is clear, the cargo doors are shut and they are standing by for the push clearance, then that would also be where the visuals of passengers could add to the realism considerably, since quite often you'll be waiting for some bags or last minute passengers, and when you see them come out to the ramp or appear at the gate, you know you're good to call for push and start in a minute or so.

But I suspect some of that'd be more in the realm of GSX than an airport scenery developer, unless they were to combine their efforts or have some kind of operations compatibility SDK for such a feature.

Beyond that and with what we have now, a bit of life does add to the immersion somewhat. If anyone had Aerosoft's Cologne/Bonn for P3D, you will be aware this featured some life in the terminals and doors down near the ramp opening etc, and it does go quite a long way toward making the airport it look a bit less like you're in a scene from The Langoliers. Pilots Almeria also has a bit more in the way off people wandering around too and that looks way more immersive as well, so it definitely adds to the fun.

I don’t own any airports that’s have people tbh.. But I do own some nice payware airports and do I have a wander around? Yep I sure do. If they had people I would do the same.

Isn’t the aim of the sim to reach as life like as we possibly can aslong as the performance is acceptable which for me this is the best performing sim I’ve ever used.

I think if we did a poll of how many people have bought a payware scenery an how many haven’t since launch my guess is you’ll will be in the minority and hey that’s fine each to their own, we all have different goals for the sim let’s not judge either way... I seen someone made an IronMan for the sim the other day... says it all😂... good luck to them 😊

Again, my way of thinking is that we can save that for World Simulator, If we can see them while taxiing or flying by, I'm perfectly OK with the people.

You talk as though is some sort of compromise is required, these Devs are making great terminals and great airside detail, just look at some of the best addons for this sim. Why can’t they do both is the point if it appeases to both sets of people.

None of Asobo’s airports have people in the terminals. So this comparison with Asobo’s 320 doesn’t make sense.

So you don’t ever see people as you taxi away from a terminal? Majority of terminals are glass fronted? You don’t see passengers boarding via stairs while taxing? Sure?
