After watching some youtube videos on the dell Xps I think I'm going to hold back in ordering the one I've posted above, as I dont like the type of cooling they use, on top of that I don't even like there custom power supply. Probably sensible. Now is probably one of the worst time in years to be buying/building a new PC. Hopefully the dust will settle in a few months.
March 8, 20215 yr @Garciamk3g absolutely DO NOT GO WITH DELL, I would have given you this advise even without watching this. Please watch this video, actually you should watch all the parts for a good time. BUT do not waste your money with this company. They are only marginally helpful with high end business networking equipment it seems. Edited March 8, 20215 yr by Brandon01110 MSFS Alpha tester on W10 Pro x64. Hardware: AMD 5900X 12 core CPU. March 8, 20215 yr It may no longer be a nightmare to get "certain" Ryzen CPUS's but it certainly still is a nightmare to get a decent gpu. Wait it out a bit (At least till the 18th). See if you can get a 6700xt at MSRP on launch day March 18th. (Read up on how/where the gpus are going to be sold and prep to try and snag one). If you manage to get one then sourcing the rest of the build is pretty much easy. Edit Was thinking they would make some of the cards immediately available to OEM's and SI's but thats "in the coming months" so meh. Looks like its either the 18th or bust if you wanted to get this done this month. Your other option is the Newegg shuffle (if you live in the US). Which personally worked for me when i decided give it a try this past February. Was able to get the items i needed pretty quickly via that route but i have a feeling most people had no idea how it worked and it wasn't slammed with entries as it possibly is now. March 8, 20215 yr I have built my own for the last 20 years And My opinion is do not buy AMD for Gaming. Buy the best memory you can afford Only Corsair. Buy oversized power supply. And Good Luck finding any Video Cards of any value for the next year or so. Don't use Radeon cards with Intel or use Nvidia Cards with AMD. Stick with same generation components. I can count the crashes I have had on one hand since Last August with MSFS. I believe based on 20 years or building my own systems its because of the advice above learned from many failures and unstable systems in the past. Regards Spent the same amount of time (if not more) building PC's, speccing them for work running the gamut from servers on down to the smallest of client machines and i cannot disagree enough with some of the stuff your saying in this present day. Not going to get into the minutiae with you or anyone else (to each his own) but if the OP is going to take the pc building route I would only hope he would seek independent reviews that address the actual use case scenario he is going for. I pledge no allegiance to any tech (hardware) manufacturer/company. Every one of them has stumbled or are currently in the wilderness and have failed to meet expectations. You do your research and objectively assess and purchase accordingly. Ill leave it at that. cheers Edited March 8, 20215 yr by Maxis AMD Ryzen 9800X3D/ Asus ROG Strix B650E F Gaming WiFi / Asrock Taichi 9070XT / 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5 6000 / 2x ADATA XPG 8200 Pro NVME / Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 / Seasonic Vertex 1000w PSU / Lian Li LanCool II Mesh Performance / Asus VG34VQL3A / Topping E70 Velvet DAC & L70 Amp /Sennheiser HD660s2 Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke + TCA Sidestick + TFRP Rudders
March 9, 20215 yr $80 PS + $70 Case + $350 CPU (Ryzen 5600) + $80 Memory(16GB) + $120 Motherboard = $700 (rough pricing, didn't verify exactly) $120 (1) TB NVME or (2) 512GB NVME's - one for OS, one for game That's $820 BEFORE the video card expense, so you can find GTX 2070/3070 or AMD 6800 for another $1000 or so even on Ebay. Or wait one more month when this silly GPU shortage might lessen slightly, though it might not, I'm thinking the prices on Ebay may start to come down. If you get graphics card on Ebay, I'd try to find most reliable dealer possible and find an Open Box deal (they'll be overpriced, but it won't matter that much). Used graphics cards are a bit riskier, especially from a bulk seller. So you can build it yourself and still get the GPU and still come out a bit better than the DELL, even buying graphics card on Ebay. AMD architecture and CPU's were never really in question except some issues in pre-2010, that stuff is long gone except for a few very very niche things you might do with a custom PC. Per the AMD graphics issues, well some games can potentially have more driver issues than NVIDIA, but honestly driver issues happen to both (NVIDIA and AMD), it just burns in your memory more if you hear about a driver issue with an AMD. Either card is fine, I would say if someone offered me NVIDIA or AMD with same specs, then I'd take NVIDIA, but only by 5% preference or so. It's unlikely you'll have more issues one way or another at this point. It's better to put the money towards the video card first, the CPU second, and the memory last (assuming at least 16GB), you can do 32GB to help a little, but spending on video card if your budget is tight. March 9, 20215 yr The biggest problem I see in PC building is people spending the least amount of money on the case. Which should matter a whole lot more than a lot of other things. Thermal and air circulation is paramount to having a good pc. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.

But if you get the Noctua cooler, it wouldn't matter for most people. With these new AMD's, yah cooling is sort of more important, but I am using a Noctua. As a matter of fact, that's what I am about to do literally RIGHT NOW. My New CPU arrived and my Noctua, I am updating my ASRock AM450 PRO to the 5800. Just flashed the BIOS to latest 4.90 (so it could take the Ryzen 5800x), but the scary part is next, hands can be clumsy sometimes with those little tiny pins. Wish AMD would go with the flat pin Intel design. Just testing the airport ENTO with my Ryzen 5-3600 to see FPS before I then reload with the new CPU to see what boost it gave (stuck with RTX 2060 for now). March 9, 20215 yr I am using an OD11 dynamic XL case. There is so much room for my RTX2080ti and the 360mm Rad that I get fairly good temp under big load. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
March 9, 20215 yr I am using a 10-year old case, so I haven't shopped cases in a while. I did buy one for $50 and it was really junk, so I just kept my old one. The fans and P/S are new though. Only issue of course is I cannot use Front USB (have hub anyhow). AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram

The biggest problem in home PC building is basically if you buy the parts from a few different suppliers and have issues they all will claim it is the other guys part that is crashing your PC 😄 . If instead you get a PC built for you and your fancy 5000 Mhz water cooled ram sticks are not compatible with the Ludicrous Bling branded Nimbus 2000 RGB gaming motherboard you can just send the whole thing back. Sooo ... if you are building it yourself, buy mainly from just one supplier and stick to components that other people have already stated work together happily and you should be fine. March 9, 20215 yr Probably will never buy another Noctua fan. Sure it keeps the CPU extra cool, but I'd rather burn up the CPU than listen to the hum. Guess my case design accentuates it. Will run it without a fan since 2 case fans are blowing directly on it, terrible design as well on the clips, clips wouldn't fit due to my own case fans so I had to rig it. There is no reason to sell a $90 HS-fan and use cheap metal clip-ons for the fan when you are in control of the engineering. Not sure why these are reviewed so well other than the temp, everything else about them is poor. I've installed 200+ cpu fans through the years, and these get an F for installation. I've never had a CPU fan hum like this unless it were a server fan or something. The thing people will put up with for that extra 0.4 ghz. March 9, 20215 yr Just to report back FPS difference for upgrading from AMD 5-3600 to a newer AMD 5800x. FPS difference is 1-2 FPS. This is in ultra mode, hence everything is ultra (I put it in ultra mode temporarily to make the test more foolproof). Did the test sitting still and using Camera to move around. Previous FPS was 16-20 in ultra at this airport, now it's 18-22 or 17-21 (hard to tell). Conclusion, unless you have other reasons to upgrade your CPU beyond FPS in this game, I probably wouldn't if you have any halfway decent CPU. I had other reasons to do the upgrade though. Might make more difference with a different GPU since I only have an RTX 2060, definitely possible. Edited March 9, 20215 yr by Alpine Scenery AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram
