March 25, 20215 yr My RTX3070 running at stock has been getting pretty warm since SU3. Several times after seeing artifacts in the clouds I've checked the temps and it's getting close to 90 degrees. Running at stock, I've never had this before. MS and Asobo need to sort this out quickly before something breaks. I also get the performance drops from 50 fps to 15/20 fps in places like many others. The performance drop offs are one thing, but overheating a very modern videocard is a very serious issue. Case fan and fans on the card are all working and no dust has accumulated yet. I could understand it with older or marginal equipment and i'm not even running in 4k Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
March 25, 20215 yr overheating is entirely on your PC thermal and capability of dissipating heat and not on Asobo Edited March 25, 20215 yr by fogboundturtle https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.

I would normally agree with you except I'm not the only one running into this issue since SU3. There would appear to be problems with GPU and CPU usage going up and down all over the place in addition to CPU thread optimisation. I don't really monitor all the time, but I've been using flight simulators for long enough to know that when your video card gets hot you'll start to see artifacts. I use the rig for mining when I'm not simming or browsing and have a special profile for that. When not mining, I run at stock. Having considered your comment again, I have the autofan setting enabled in Afterburner and wonder if the problem lies with that. I may reboot to see what happens. All these systems can't suddenly develop issues on only this piece of software and nothing else. Sim runs fine, Asobo updates it, and then the sim doesn't run well anymore, it's not the fault of the PC. Edited March 25, 20215 yr by Bobsk8

As I say, no issues before SU3 Thats fine and i will give you that you are correct in that artifacting is indicating a problem. But how are you sure that this was caused by SU3? Have you considered that you may just have gotten a bum card that is just now presenting its issues ? The software cant turn up the clocks past 100% (Unless you or the the board manufacturer has gone past the recommended boost and memory clocks). I would check to see what the boost clocks should be for your model and make sure that you are hitting them without artifacting. If it is artifacting and the card is not overclocked by you (and your cooling is adequate) then its time for an RMA. Im aware that this may not be what you want to hear. But if the software is asking for 100% performance then the card should be able to deliver the rated performance. If it is unable to do so you cant blame the software. If the software was asking for more than 100% of the rated clocks then you may have a case. All these systems can't suddenly develop issues on only this piece of software and nothing else. Sim runs fine, Asobo updates it, and then the sim doesn't run well anymore, it's not the fault of the PC. Even if SU3 is running havoc, thermal dissipation of a system is entirely based on physics. How much heat do you generate and how much air flow or surface do you have to dissipate that heat. While running MSFS, my CPU is at 58c and my GPU is at 72 to 74c. That's with unlimited frame. That's because I keep an adequate ambient temperature at home and I have a case that has an excellent airflow. OD11 XL Dynamic. There is enough room and fan to keep everything cool. There is an underlying issue here. A card should never get this hot regardless of its usage. It means that either the fan rpm is not ramping up or the case is unable to dissipate the heat. Again. 100% physical issue. That's regardless of software. Run Afterburner, look at the fan curve and make sure it's working as intended. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
March 25, 20215 yr I also run afterburner, and like the op, i noticed a big increase in heating since wu3.. Solved at my end by changing the fan curve, AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

Some users who don't check their temps are going to fry their GPU.

He said he has been mining with his card when he is not flying. Maybe he forgot to stop his mining while flying. Mining 24/7 on a GPU will take a told on a card. it will also build heat in a PC case. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
