March 27, 20215 yr Last night I flew out of Groton New London. The METAR was for 1 mile visibility. I had brilliant sunny skies. My previous flight (into Groton) the weather was challenging but selected the METAR accurately. Has the hot fix busted the weather?
March 27, 20215 yr I didn't see any change so far. Just a reminder if you are not aware : 1/ "Live" weather is misnomer, MeteoBlue as I understand it, brings predicted weather, you know like the little frog and its ladder in a bocal, not real observed weather 2/ LW does not work well in the planning UI (if such thing exists in MFS). You'd better enter the sim with the clear sky preset and then call LW from the tool bar. It works very well most of the time. March 27, 20215 yr I forgot to add that there is a bug in LW even when it works, sometimes it « forgets » the clouds. The BP and wind are about what they should be but the clouds are missing. Just got a taste of that in the Solomons. Went into the sim with Clear Sky, called LW, got it, compared it to the METAR. Everything was OK except there was no cloud... March 27, 20215 yr Author @Dominique I think you are right about the clouds although this is a first for me. Wind and pressure settings were changing.
March 27, 20215 yr You have to start the flight with a preset weather and select live weather afer loading the flight. Worked every time since I started doing it. R5 3600 - GTX 1070OC - 32GB 3200 - NVME - 3440x1440 160Hz - VR(Quest 2) GarbagePoster™
March 27, 20215 yr It is a bug, you have to restart the game between flights for LW to work properly, you can workaround some of it by loading the second flight with preselect weather and clear skies, and change weather to Live within the sim, then you will get all LW back besides the strength and direction of the wind which will be the same as you have preselected, and that will complicate things with ATC, AI will fly according to LW and landing and starting at different RW than you. I don't think the temperature changes from the preselected settings either, but I'm not 100% sure of that. March 27, 20215 yr The answer to all of this is download and install UNREAL WEATHER. Simply activate it when you don't like default live weather. Nice having the option especially in terminal areas to replicate the actual ATIS data. SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

So I use unreal to get accurate METAR weather on the ground then switch to live while climbing out. Back to Unreal on descent. EddieKABQ
March 27, 20215 yr Live weather sometimes just wont load .. happened to me in all versions. Same with traffic.
March 27, 20215 yr The MSFS Live Weather system only uses 3 specific values from real time airport METAR reports: wind, temperature and pressure. Any METAR values for clouds, precipitation and visibility are ignored. Those values come from the MeteoBlue forecast model, which, (depending on the location and time), might be quite close to the actual METAR data - or quite different. This morning and early afternoon, the cloud patterns on the World Map were very close to the current US satellite photo. Now, at 1900 EDT (2300Z) The world map weather patterns appear to be showing the forecast for 12 hours from now. This is something I have often seen with Live Weather - especially in late afternoon US Eastern time, when the server often appears to be providing the forecast map for the next morning. Right now here in New York State, the weather is mostly sunny with some high cirrus. That was also the case in the sim about 4 hours ago. Now, in the sim, it is overcast and raining, even though rain is not slated to begin here until just about 12 hours from now. The storm system that will bring the rain is actually near Chicago at this time, not in the northeast. March 28, 20215 yr Ran it earlier today and i see that the random lightning is back even in moderate cumulus with no active storm or precip. I thought they fixed that earlier, but it is definitely back now.
