April 10, 20215 yr I'd like to know what compression tool Asobo uses. I'd request Asobo more respect for people who don't have unlimited and fast broadband connections, and in general for people's time. I really think the installation package needs optimization, as I wrote in another thread: "At the release the total data to be downloaded was about 103 GB for the Premium Deluxe version. Now it is 165 GB + about 16 GB for Japan, US, UK updates and their custom airports. A total of about 180 GB to download but my MSFS folder is only 117 GB. They didn't even bother making a rational repack of the installation files so evidently you have to download and overwrite the same areas twice. It doesn't make sense to keep the world updates as separate packages because they are free for all users. It's a waste of 60 GB of data. No sympathy for those having slow connections and / or limited data plans." https://i.postimg.cc/mZt8NcF8/Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-Screenshot-2021-04-10-11-59-22-51.pnghttps://i.postimg.cc/xjhgs0vY/Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-Screenshot-2021-04-10-12-00-36-10.png https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/paderborn-10gb/361598/17 Edited April 10, 20215 yr by MrFuzzy 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

Not much going on so you decided to go complain about something, anything 🤦🏿♂️. It's 2021, even my phone data speed is capable of downloading the sim.

Here it's 3,20 pm, Saturday. Second: my internet connection is 300 Mbit fiber as you can see from the screenshot. Unlimited data. That's not the point. Many people don't have unlimited data, have 50 Mbit or less, and simply shouldn't be forced to waste their time to download 200 GByte that become 120 GB after "decompression". 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

Update made quickly as for all Aérosoft products since ASUpdater. Easy and fast... The problem is not the speed. I downloaded it in a few minutes at around 250 MBit/s. I just wonder why we have to download 10 GB that decompress into 3.5 and why 200 GB become 120 after decompression. April 10, 20215 yr My interpretation from installing MSFS a couple of times lately is that it will first download the original August 2020 files, then the first patch, and the next, and the next etc. Microsoft seems not to patch and repack files on their server but just add every patch. There might be a sensible reason for this, but it means a longer installation process since not only does this require larger downloads, it also takes time to proces each update. The advantage is that that every installation has had the same treatment, whether installed in August or today. That makes troubleshooting errors much easier. I hope that at one time at least Microsoft will consolidate the installation package. Perhaps that wil come when the Xbox version is ready of after DirectX12. I'm just saying, you could be flying instead of worrying about why files are too big and not doing this or that. Seems like alot of you guys just go looking for something to complain about. Can't believe how you guys live life like that. Sad
April 10, 20215 yr Didn't know that I live in a jungle. Thanks for the heads-up. 6 hours ago, MrFuzzy said: Now it is 165 GB 2 hours ago, orchestra_nl said: My interpretation from installing MSFS a couple of times lately is that it will first download the original August 2020 files, then the first patch, and the next, and the next etc. For real? That means it could take 100 hours for me to download the entire game again (took me 50 hours for the 96GB download at launch). Huh, guess there's still a use case for the discs of the retail edition.

So there is no "Get better service".

April 10, 20215 yr Also easy to forget that in much of US, and elsewhere, there are data caps as well. I find it pretty mind boggling how unbothered developers are about the amount of data they spew at users. I'll bet with a bit more effort they could massively cut it down. With Dirt 2.0 every single update has been 15gb. The only thing that changes is the signage at the start of the stage as far as I can tell. That's over two hours of downloading for me with zero benefit.
