What server were you on? I was flying with a pal in that area yesterday evening on the EU north server and it was stuttering and pausing horribly for both of us. We switched over to USA East and it was immediately smooth as butter. Honestly, this is what makes diagnosing issues so difficult as im now convinced so many of the issues are server related. I tend to fly on East USA most of the time now even though im in the UK as I tend to see far worse performance on the EU servers. Edited May 18, 20215 yr by The_Moose

Does it still make a difference? Can I swap my server even when I fly solo only? I will have to take a look. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I dont notice any performance difference with multiplayer on personally. (I'm locked at 30FPS and it doesnt dip below that either Multi on or off.. there probably is a small hit to the max frame rate with multi on but i havent checked...as long as it doesnt dip below 30 for me i don't bother testing any further than that 😉 ) Just hit ESC at any time in flight and you can swap servers on the fly. Give it a go next time and see if it makes a difference.

I was getting the manipulators / GPU at zero utilisation issue a lot. (Which I have had in this region going back months - other areas are fine). Same experience with me yesterday. I assumed it was due to the mesh since the stutters disappered when I deactivated the mesh and reappered when I activated it again. I tried various things to sort things out before I realised it could be the mesh: dialled back the overclock, deactivated Process Lasso, fine-tuned the network settings (realised that for a long time XBox Live was not using open NAT as I didn't have UPnP enabled in the router). I logged out and back into my XBOX account and changed servers back and forth. I disabled all live services from the in-sim menu and even turned all the visual settings way down to low. Nothing influenced the stutters. I agree that MSFS seems incredibly unpredictable. Most of the time my system runs smooth with very little stutters and no pauses. Just the normal fps drop when flying into dense metropolitan areas. Since my system and graphic settings stay the same, I have often assumed that some of the changes in performance is due to streaming issues from the live services. It's a potentially fragile system, relying on so much data streaming over the internet in order for the sim to work correctly. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

But while the stutters occured, strangely I had lots of headroom - CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM. I didn't check all CPU cores though, just total CPU usage. Also strange that stutters persisted with visual settings all the way down to minimum. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

Yes, it is another 'thing' that I have been trying to trace for some time now. Frustrating! When I get pauses, it tends to show a gap on the 'manipulators' part of the graph in dev mode, and I can see GPU, or CPU, or both, drop to zero utilisation during the pause, like they are waiting for something else. I use other graphing software to confirm this also. (cooling and temps all fine by the way - all cores on the CPU and GPU at about 70C). I have given up trying to trace it now. I can only think it is waiting for online data. I will try the server swap tonight when nit happens. Edited May 18, 20215 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). May 18, 20215 yr Wow, this is fantastic. Now I can finally recognize the mountains in Switzerland. It‘s not perfect but what a difference to the default mesh! i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
May 20, 20215 yr A 20m version is out: https://de.flightsim.to/file/14818/austria-20m-dem-high-resolution-terrain-elevation-data-from-lidar-imaging I had performance issues with 10m. Terrain resolution with 20m looks almost as good judging by the screenshots, and still far better than default. Will try this one out - the 10m version became unflyable for me due to frequent pauses. By the way, I’ve got Italy DEM 20m too so now have a large region of high resolution terrain in Europe. If someone does a LIDAR of Switzerland then most of the Alps will be covered. May 20, 20215 yr Yup, and he also had the German Alps region done. There is also 20M DEM for Norway and the Canaries released as well! Edited May 20, 20215 yr by The_Moose

May 20, 20215 yr Author These new DEMs have made me realise how great MSFS can look. Can anyone tell me what the default MSFS DEMs are, particularly for the UK, Europe and the US. May 20, 20215 yr Author Just downloaded the Swiss DEM which I am looking forward to trying. I will search flightsim.to for a few nice airfields to go with it. I've also just downloaded the chairlifts and cable cars scenery which should compliment it very well. I too will probably give Norway a miss until I see what the next world update looks like. Norway in particular looks much better in real life than the sim - updated terrain resolution is much needed here. 1 hour ago, cianpars said: Can anyone tell me what the default MSFS DEMs are, particularly for the UK, Europe and the US.
