"you can not be serious!"

Featured Replies

Well, I was reading the thread about the CS 777, and all the usual rubbish about simmers vs gamers was going on again. I normally just smile to myself and read on, but @Chock made a comment about the fact that there are some folk who will always want to fly a 747 inverted under the Golden Gate Bridge and that was ok.

And that reminded me <grin>

So here, to prove I really am a totally serious simmer (I know that because I was reading Dostoevsky with the other hand while I was flying this thing one handed) are some shots from a couple of years ago when I was feeling like a bit of light relief. Enjoy, or snarl, as is your preference.

What a wonderful thing this is

And it's got all sorts of clocks and things in the bit where you sit up front. And they all light up! Amazing. No idea what they do, mind you.

Is this a bridge I see before me?

Reading "The Idi0t" (would you believe it, AVSIM censored the original there - sigh) while doing this seems strangely appropriate

Sorry it wasn't inverted, but maybe I'll try that later (I have got a port of this aircraft across to MSFS so who knows)

Ooooh! a challenge! I'll check the measurements and maybe try it if it's theoretically possible. I always have that old song title in mind "the wonder of slew".

I did spend a day or two once trying to get a 787 through the box at Tower Bridge. Theoretically I had a metre to spare on the wingspan even flying flat and level, Tried it with the sim slowed down and got pretty close a couple of times, tried slew but every time it came out of pause it jumped just enough to hit something. Gave up in the end and had to settle for going through the box at speed in the airbus.

I probably should get a life.

That's about the same wingtip clearance a 747 has from the doors when going into the old Thomas Cook Hangar at Manchester Airport. It's a proper brown trousers moment for tug drivers putting a Jumbo in that hangar. Not sure I'd fancy the odds of judging it at 200 miles per hour though!

While I'm considering that, I found these while going back through my old pictures. Please accept these as a placeholder.

I'm actually a quiet, calm, restrained sort of guy in real life, honest.

Oh boy...piloting the B36 "one-handed" under the bridge, while "reading Dostoevsky" in the other hand...🙂...that's tough, indeed...

I'm impressed by the Gee Bee pictures...must require some serious flying skills....!

Where did you get a B36?  I had an uncle who was a chief flight engineer of one of two that were converted to mid-air rerfuelers.

Hi Frank, that's from Virtavia. I just checked and it's still available and right at the moment it's 50% off at PCAviator.com (so $12.50). Supposedy FSX only but I had it running in P3D perfectly well and it even ports over to MSFS ok, with the usual considerations like no working gauges etc. If you've got the skills and the inclination you can even buy the model source files from the Virtavia site for $250 and I guess you might then be able to create a working MSFS variant, That's way over my head though.

It's turning the pages that get's difficult - have to hold the stick with my knees at that moment.

(and you're not wrong with the Gee Bee - it's a real pig. No wonder they had fatalities with the real thing. Must have been like being strapped to a wild boar with a thorn in its 4rse)
