July 17, 20214 yr Doing some research in preparation for maybe getting a 3090 when availability increases. Didn't realize how many flavors they come in but i found a video where, based on a number of hardware design factors, they are racked and stacked. The guy appears to know his stuff but then compared to me anyone would. The top 3 in order are : 1. Asus Strix , 2. MSI Gaming X trio , 3 Asus TUF . He reviews and ranks about 8 cards in total but it appears there may be a significant drop off after these top three. The link is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyS5Fa5w34E Probably should be move to the hardware forum but probably more eyes here that may be looking to upgrade and confused on the options. July 18, 20214 yr Author People were asking about the EVGA cards in the comments so I don't think he had one to review unfortunately. Hopefully he'll update but I've got a better idea of what to avoid and what to look for.
July 18, 20214 yr The evga cards are only good for their support, the pcb design is not great. July 18, 20214 yr EVGA rarely are top for performance, but it's so miniscule that you wouldn't notice a difference. Paying top dollar for the extra 20-100mhz of speed that you can easily do yourself is kind of silly. Sure I've done it many times over the years and I'll do it again I'm sure. Just get one from the brand you prefer and you'll be a happy camper. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
July 18, 20214 yr These top cards are the best because of a higher boost frequency for the chipset. But be aware that this is a the expense of more noise and more heat. Patrice Dubois
July 19, 20214 yr If you are going to install a 3090 what else should you have in your system? What I am thinking of is how to deal with the heat it generates, power consumption, suitable CPU etc etc. In Australia GPUs are becoming more available but still at ridiculous prices. This is especially the case for the 3080ti yes available but for about 10 - 15 % more you can get a 3090. So comparatively the 3080ti seem very poor value although probably a better fit for my (now) more mid range 2.5 years old system. Thanks. July 19, 20214 yr And Nvidia are getting ready to launch the 3000 series SUPER later this year. Raymond Fry.
July 19, 20214 yr Author I'm hoping that the upcoming potential performance improvements announced by Asobo for the 27th July update will make this all moot for a little while longer. I began looking at the 3090 a couple of months ago thinking that the basic sim performance was pretty consistent from update to update and wouldn't improve drastically after almost a year from release. The only time I've ever seen anything remotely like it was when x-plane shifted to Vulkan last year. So I was a little surprised by the Asobo announcement..My current 2080 TI is doing a pretty good job using the stock A320 in VR. A couple more fps and reduced stutters on the ground and I will be very happy. We will wait and see.
