You have to micro-manage SOME programmers temporarily to get them in the right flow. Not all programmers need that, but many lack common sense of the best way to go about things, it's a common problem in computers in general.

You can see this all over the place with stuff that was changed with DEV mode that had nothing to do with anything other than changing stuff around. I know this because I have a similar problem at work with someone that keeps over-complicating things just for the sake of "best practices" or TRYING to improve stuff. Improvement = bugs, it's always like that. There is no such thing as a global "best practice", it varies in every situation.

If you have a year to do something, then the best practice may very well be to be go slow and meticulous. If you are going to be releasing monthly updates, the best practice is TO CHANGE as little as possible, because that is not nearly enough time to be reworking the major internals of the game.

Until anybody enforces them they're not rules, they're (perhaps strong) requests / suggestions which of course you retain the right to refuse.

If you see the arguments against using it, if you decide that your right to use the word 'gaslighting' instead of perfectly serviceable alternatives like hoodwink, deceive, con, mislead, hoax, trick, manipulate etc. trumps the rights of abuse victims to not have their experiences belittled by you using the term lightly in a niche hobby internet forum, then there really is no moral argument that will make its way through to you.

This isn't a freedom of speech hill which you're valiantly making a stand on. It's just a petty decision to continue using a word which you've been given many cogent reasons not to because you don't like the idea of other people agreeing on what's publicly right.
