Can't access AVSIM from my other computer

Recommended Posts

It's related to https instead of http : a website needs an updated certificate, using let's encrypt ( free ) or other expensive providers.
Those certificates can be monthly automatically updated. Usually, they can also last 3 months or more.

The domain name is not the problem : you can access a domain through http or https !
In case your certificate is no longer valid, you get the warning you got.

Renewing a certificate is really easy !
httpS besomes valid again.

Someone posted on the FS Forum that the domain doesn't expire until 2022.

Avsim.com uses nameservers of the Avsim.NET domain name. the .NET domain name expired the other day. As shown in this screenshot - Also take a look at the nameservers where it states "Pending Renewal and Deletion".

This looks like it has since been resolved, as the .NET nameservers are somewhat back to normal looking at the latest WHOIS reports. If that is the case then it's just a wait for your DNS to update. This can depend on who your DNS provider is etc.

The SSL hasn't been a problem on the .com domain. They do use Let's Encrypt and it's valid untIl October.

You simply have to wait. DNS is a hierarchical system. It takes time for a domain change to propagate from the internet’s top-level DNS servers to local DNS used by specific ISPs. I have the opposite situation from you. I can access Avsim from desktop via Spectrum cable internet service, but not from my iPhone via Verizon Wireless. It should all resolve over the next several hours for everyone.

Avsim is run by volunteers, so it is understandable that something like an upcoming web site registration renewal might “fall through the cracks” and get overlooked. But, it would probably be best to designate someone within the organization to keep tabs on all assigned web site and security certificates registrations to insure they get renewed in advance of the expiration date.

@JRBarrett Well said Jim... as a bystander, I simply do not have the ability to criticize those who actually "DO". It will get put on the Calendar, I'm sure.
