Hi Coastaldriver,

Captain Sim (yes I know, many people get grumpy when they read that) make a 757 and 767  for V5 as well.  I haven't tried, but I imagine their older 727, and 707 won't install into V5.  But as I said, I didn't try...

Mark

No they won't do it, too many 32 bit guages and other arcane means of doing things that just don't work in 64bit V5. I gave them a go to see what would happen, you end up with a mess and lots of missing textures and animations as well.  I do miss the the 707 no longer gracing my sim skies.

I've put together a pretty detailed mod guide to get it installed, update the cockpit sounds, revise the flight model, and even set it up with ISG gauges for an RNAV-capable DC-10.  Check it out:

It's a very good looking model and nice for casual flying out of the box. I'm sure it's great, but unfortunately, working out a GSX config for--using the 3D method--it is the limit of my computer abilities. The most pressing issue at the moment is the lack of cockpit sounds. But most of this goes over the heads of those of us who are not programmers.

If you spend the time time to read his guide, it’s all well explained in there. Took me the best part of an evening, but I worked through and the results are well worth it! 👍

Welp, literally don't know where to start then...even with a fresh v5 install and default effects.  Darn.  Guess it'll remain in the hangar.

I stared by getting a fresh QW download from the original source, Flight1 I think.

Have you tried a new QW install?

Indeed, used the Flight1 link and the QW site link. v1.5 installer for P3Dv5

No doubt this is good advice, right up at the beginning.

"NOTE 2: If you have not edited aircraft or panel configuration files for FS2004, FSX, or any version of P3D, and have no experience in XML documents, and have not or have very little experience with the Windows command line, it is highly recommended you simply stop right now."

I have edited aircraft config files and panel files (i.e cut-and-pasted something someone else figured out), but have zero experience in XML documents. I'm not sure they were a thing in FSX. Could have been. I could probably eventually find the Windows command line, but have used it maybe five times in my life. It's just an observation, not a complaint. People have different backgrounds and at a certain age it's harder for some of us to pick up new skills. I think it's good the author recognizes that and puts the caution up front. I'll piddle around with what I can do. A nice person gave me a lot of stuff including FSSpotlights profiles that are fantastic. I'll poke around in all of this, but I'll probably take the sound advice and recognize my limitations. I'm downloading it and I hope there are things I can pick and choose from that I'm comfortable trying.

should probably soften that a little bit.  The original version of the guide required you to unpack the gauges cab file for the DC-10, edit every single gauge that generated a sound, and re-package the cab file.  Yuck.  The updated guide uses a Lua file (it's all built, you don't need to edit it) to intercept the gauge calls and generate the appropriate sounds.

The only XML file you now need to edit is the one to set up the DC-10 as an add-on.xml file.  The template for the XML file is included in the guide and simply requires you to update the paths to the appropriate folders specific to your install on your PC in a few places.

If you've been in and around FSX/P3D for a while and have edited aircraft.cfg and/or panel.cfg files before, you can probably handle it.  I've tried to make the guide as step-by-step as possible.

I didn't use the v1.5 installer for P3D v5.

The QW file I pulled from my account only went to v4, then in the install I pointed it to the v5 location.

Not sure if that is a factor.

Also, looking at my RJ70 shot, where the Landing Lights appear to be directed at the front fuselage rather than the tarmac, I wonder if there is any .cfg tweaking that can be done to change the 'target' of the Landing Lights??

You may be underestimating my talent to mess up the simplest things. 🤪 But I'll give it a try! Thanks for the encouragement.

Interesting thing about the JF TriStar. It was murdering me on landings. I was losing the ability to change pitch normally right at the worst time in the approach. Never had that problem with the Captain Sim version. Turns out JustFlight actually modeled DLC. Turn it off and it lands like any other airplane. Keep it on and it's a challenge, but really makes you pay attention to your technique. It's nice to discover I've underestimated a dev in some regard. And thanks to everyone who talked up the DC-10. Even without mods, it's fun, and looks fantastic with GSX, if you like that sort of thing. I realize my wife and I rode one with four little kids to Sicily (via the Azores) to Italy when I PCS'd to Sig at the beginning of Desert Storm. A good old World contract flight. A crying baby, two young toddlers and a five-year-old with Ghost playing on the screen. A flight attendant asked, "Would you like something for the baby?" I assume she meant drugs. I think my wife could have used some.

No. Definitely not. It should read: "Unless you are 100% confident in your ability to do this sort of thing, you should stop now." I'm not sure how my installation is different, but I don't even have a "modules" folder in P3D, except in the SimObjects folder, and I don't think that's the one. My experience wasn't the best. Not blaming you, of course, because I decided to go ahead on the slenderest of qualifications. That's the way I learn most things. This time it was, "don't do things like that," 😄

Hi Tim, this is due to a change in FSUIPC. Nowadays you just place those files in the root FSUIPC folder, iirc!
That threw me for a while until I did a bit of Googling 😎

Ah. That will make things easier. I always get thrown for a loop by things like that. As it is, all the other work MammyJammy put together (I know others contributed) works fine. Whatever artist put the FSSpotlights together ought to sign his work. Operationally, it still struggles a bit heavy to get to 32,000 feet, but that's an easy work around. I love it when people lavish work on these old airplanes, like the old Captain Sim community used to. My opinion of JustFlight has imp--wait. My expectations have been properly calibrated and I'm very glad to have airplanes I would not be flying at all without them. I'm using Where Are My Airplanes to fly my whole fleet into Edwards and position them there. Last night I tried avatar mode for the first time and just walked around the L1011, DC-10, DC-8-21, and two different 732s (CS and Milvis--six of one, half a dozen of the other, although I think CS is a bit better). We've really got it pretty good for all the doom and gloom about P3D. Funny, the biggest thing I miss is A2As Shockwave lights.

Came across a Boeing 707 in the back of the v4 hangar & tried it in v5, & it flies.

Quite nicely. Very smooth & good sound.

Cockpit is spartan, with 'frozen' analog dials, but there appears to be a basic working AP.

It looks like it came via Rikoooo & appears to trace back to Simviation.
