Carenado Seminole or Seneca ?

Recommended Posts

Good day all,

im looking at picking up one of carenado’s twin engine craft to feed the “twin” appetite. I don’t mind the default baron however I’m really not a fan of the high tech instruments, I’m more old school and like round instrument gauges.

for those who have both, if you could only use one, would you keep the Seminole or the Seneca? Are they of the same quality?

I haven't tried the Seneca, because frankly with MSFS, I am not fond of flying at really high altitudes where I can't even see the great scenery, that is visible in lower altitudes, so I decided to get the Seminole which is a great flying aircraft. Most of my flights are around 5-8 thousand feet AGL, which affords a great view of the scenery. Don't need pressurization for those altitudes.

The consensus elsewhere seems to be that while the Seminole is quite good, the Seneca, especially for Carenado is extremely good.

Have not got either though, waiting on their Cheyenne.

I’m typically a low level flyer also (which is crazy to think cause in the +25 years of simming I was ALWAYS a high altitude flyer, now the high altitude doesn’t interest me as much since msfs came along.

thanks for chiming in!

I would wait till there all undated to SU5 before buying any. I only have the M20R, I will never buy anything again from there market place.

They will proberly be updated before SU6 and then they could all be broken again...repeat....

I totally agree. Every one of my Carenado aircraft has items that don't work anymore after SU5. It's anyone's guess as to when they will be fixed.

I have the Seneca and the Seminole, and unless speed is important, I much prefer the Seminole - for the simple reason that the engines on the Seneca sit so high, that visibility from the cockpit is really poor (a real life phenomenon; not a criticism of the model). The panel sits high so forward visibility isn't great either.   If you want a fast(ish) IFR twin platform the Seneca is superb but if you want to enjoy the scenery, it's among the worst of the aircraft I've used in the sim, on that part.

Seminole visibility still isn't the best (it's not in any twin) but markedly better than the Seneca IMHO.

Both are good, but I do tend to pick the Seneca above the Seminole now for a twin flight.  It just seems to have that little bit of x-factor. (I accept what JYW says about visibility though).

I can't vouch for the accuracy of the flight model, but taking into account the usual Carenado ethos, and any limitations on the systems, I find the Seneca quite agreeable to take for a spin.  And while there is nothing badly wrong with the Seminole, it is more like a twin Arrow, and seems like the smaller brother and slightly less interesting than the Seneca.

@Glenn Fitzpatrick  Ahhh!  You would have to throw the Cheyanne into the mix!
While it is quite fast and sporty, I would prefer Carenado to bring across their Navajo actually.  Purely a personal preference due to seeing so many locally when I was a nipper - Nostalgia and all that!

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Thanks, Will hold off on any carenado purchases till they provide their updates, may settle for the JF arrow to carry me through the weekend (although not a twin) 😉

The Seneca is working fine here.  Great plane with the GTN 750.

Cheers

If your just getting one Arrow,  the Turbo III/IV pack is the most versatile and up close to the twins in performance at altitude.

Though the package price getting the standard first and a 66% discount on the Turbo package works out as a good priced bundle .

And then add the Warrior with that 25% off coupon 😉

But back at the Carenado Piper Twins I'd pick the Seneca over the Seminole every time EXCEPT that for some reason I have a problem with the Seneca that's causing the stall speed to be way too high (80-85kts with full flaps) which makes landing.... interesting.
