MSFS crashing.

An add-on is an add-on is an add-on.  Some MSFS marketplace add-ons are also not compatible with Sim Update 5. This is ironic since the add-on is still being sold in the marketplace, despite not being compatible with Sim Update 5.  Too compound the problem further, even if the developer has a fix for the add-on, it takes at least several weeks for the add-on to be updated in the marketplace.  If you are having problems with MSFS, you should delete your marketplace add-ons too and test MSFS again,

I was referring to Asobo addons only. I only have one third party Marketplace addon.

What vidcard and driver and monitor and refresh are you running?  Are you using default driver settings?

Also I'd run MemTest for your ram, although sometimes even memtest doesn't detect an undervolt situation.

I use GeForce RTX 2080 Super with default settings, I never mess with my hardware settings. I have a Samsung 32 inch monitor and I use a 60 Hz refresh rate. I am also using the latest Nvidia 471.68 driver.

Just did a test flight in the CRJ from Lvfr KMIA to Lvfr KFLL (literally a 10 minute flight) and crashed (CTD) on final. This is exhausting. With a full time job and a family, I don’t have the time to deal with this. My hardware is far better than what is required, so I am not overly confident in the future as we get more complex addons. I don’t get paid to troubleshoot for Microsoft, so I hope they get this figured out.

I'm convinced your issue is not the sim now Pete.  Time to dig into those logs.

I’m not sure I have the patience for it. I think I’ll need to take a break for a while. P3dv5 works flawlessly on the same PC.

I’m just gonna throw this out there: If I have a computer less than a year old, and several programs that work without issue, I think it’s safe to assume I don’t have an issue with my PC. If I am having issues with a specific program, and I have to spend time I don’t have to figure out what is causing that program to malfunction, then in my opinion the issue lies with that program. Microsoft makes the operating system, and Microsoft makes MSFS. Why should I have to search for solutions? I am an accountant, not an IT specialist. I don’t have the time nor expertise to dig through logs and try to interpret what is happening. I know you are all trying to help, and I appreciate that. The bottom line is that this is a piece of entertainment software that should function properly with a number of different setups. As I said before, I have very limited time to use MSFS, and certainly even less time to try to figure out why it is not working properly for me. I feel sometimes we all settle for this scenario and make excuses for the developer. I hope over time these problems are ironed out. Thanks again to all of you for trying to assist me in resolving these issues.

Cheers, Pete

Thanks, I will check that out in morning and see if that helps. It’s almost as if something in Windows is clashing with MSFS, but since I run vanilla Windows, I haven’t a clue where to start. I also fear that even if I get past this issue it will break again in short order.

I’ll make sure sure to have a couple of tall cold ones before I start.

This includes liveries. It has become a ritual for me- before I fire up the sim, I visit flightsim.to and also run the A32NX, Orbx, Aerosoft and PMDG updaters to be sure I have the latest versions of all add-on’s. There are usually updates to one or more of my add-on’s daily.

Though I have not had a crash from any add-ons, I have had panels become unusable, strange graphics, etc.  In all cases they were caused by add-ons that hadn't yet been updated for SU5.  The liveries can be really interesting.  I have a wonderful set of liveries - all from the same creator/source for one particular aircraft.  95% of them still work great, but there is a small selection (about 4 liveries) that create immediate issues - I've set them aside and... no more issues.

It's interesting that the majority cause no problems, yet they were all part of the same package...

Hi,

I have very few CTDs now, but I had a lot of them in the past weeks since SU5 and the two HF.

But I've discovered that there are crashes that are not at all depending on add-ons.

For instance, if I fly from Madrid, Barajas (LEMD) I have always a CTD. No add-ons whatsoever: no planes (I use just the default aircraft with default livery), no airports, no extra textures, no toolbar add-ons, no nothing!

But I have a CTD every flight at about five minutes after takeoff.

I've deleted the ASOBO airport (LEMD) and even I've reinstalled MSFS, but the CTDs are always there!

What's happening?

Thanks for this. Everyone having problems with SU5 should take note. (I have taken the liberty of boldfacing some parts). I am not suggesting that all SU5 problems are caused by addons, but unquestionably many are. I myself was in that group -- had CTDs, found and removed/updated the offending addons, and voila, no more CTDs.

Sure, that's my experience  - mostly, but it's not just Community addons. Quite a few of my payware airports bought in the Marketplace also cause CTDs, and even MSFS's own upgraded airports.

At least on the addon download sites it does make clear whether they've been tested working in SU5. Marketplace entries have no such info whatsoever.

I find the WT addons (CJ4/G3000) that I use, as well as the 930 updated TBM mod all actually work fine after SU5.

In addition I and others have reported problems with graphics cards and some of the drivers causing blurries and crashes.

We can all do our best to ensure /minimise crashes, but even by Asobo's own admission there are some fundamental problems right now causing crashes in the Sim since SU5. So we'll just have to wait.
