Hopefully not.

Did you installed something new? New aircraft or livery? Lately I had an issue with the FBW A320 or Easyjet NEO livery, at least sims started crashing when using this combination. With PMDG DC-6 everything works fine. I havent tried yet but I think the livery might cause the issue. Perhaps you could check into that direction.

Or try to update your drivers. Nvidia has put a new driver online lately, maybe that could help?

I have hundreds of add-ons that I manage with addon linker.  My addons are in folders, which might contain one to 25 individual addons.  In Linker I just click on the folder name and it loads everything into Community.

Since SU5 I have been suffering random CTDs and it ALWAYS turns out to be one or more addons that are not compatible with the most recent update and Hotfix.  I then have to go back to the original source and either download the updated version or, if there is no update, deleted that addon from my AddOn Linker library.  It is sometimes time consuming to locate the one addon causing the problem.

BUT - the good news is that since the Hotfix I have seen no CTD that were caused by anything but addons.

I get almost all my addons from https://flightsim.to/ and they do a wonderful job allowing me to track necessary updates and the SU5 status of each addon.  I just go to Profile/Downloads and it tells me which addons need updating and which ones have no SU5 compatible link.

I’ll be honest, this business is getting old. Everything can be working perfectly, and then out of nowhere, CTD begins. I had my own issues yesterday, reinstalled, and it works fine at the moment. But that said, something is still not right. I feel like I need to walk on egg shells to keep things working. I cross my fingers every time I start MSFS, because I never know what to expect. It seems to be far to easy to break the sim, and when it happens, I don’t know why. This should not be happening to off the shelf entertainment software.

Cheers, Pete

It's all about the data with MSFS.  Especially weather data just like FSX it can easily cause a crash.

Did you figure out how to read your Windows logs?  The answer lies there.

Funny you ask, I just responded about it. I did figure it out and it was so easy, I feel dopey. I don’t quite know what these reports mean, but at least if need be I can send them to some who does. Now I’m ready for a series of beers!

LOL!  Yep you made your bed and now you have to sleep in it.  There may be a correlation with other errors like in the system logs.  The key is the timestamp when MSFS crashed.

Good luck.

Thanks for this. Everyone having problems with SU5 should take note. (I have taken the liberty of boldfacing some parts). I am not suggesting that all SU5 problems are caused by addons, but unquestionably many are. I myself was in that group -- had CTDs, found and removed/updated the offending addons, and voila, no more CTDs.

Add-on’s on flightsim.to now indicate clearly whether they have been updated for SU5 or not confirmed compatible by the respective devs yet. Many are still not confirmed compatible. SU5 definitely made significant changes that affect add-on’s adversely. This includes liveries. It has become a ritual for me- before I fire up the sim, I visit flightsim.to and also run the A32NX, Orbx, Aerosoft and PMDG updaters to be sure I have the latest versions of all add-on’s. There are usually updates to one or more of my add-on’s daily.

😧 Wow!  I have -- five (5) add-ons total.   Maybe that's why my MSFS is so stable?

I don't know, when I hear "my sim is unstable and I've removed all add-ons" and yet an overclock is present, the first thing I'm thinking is, "well, turn off the overclock".  That's a good first step towards troubleshooting any pc problem, not just app instability.  Then at least you know if you have undervolted ram, for example.

In my case, I was running no addons. I use the Addon Linker tool so I was able to easily deactivate any freeware. However, the problem didn’t go away. I think in some cases it is a mystery. If we are also taking about Marketplace addons, then that one is a real head shaker. Incidentally, the only purchased marketplace addon I use is EKCH. I also never overclock anything, I am using as vanilla a setup as one can have.

An add-on is an add-on is an add-on.  Some MSFS marketplace add-ons are also not compatible with Sim Update 5. This is ironic since the add-on is still being sold in the marketplace, despite not being compatible with Sim Update 5.  Too compound the problem further, even if the developer has a fix for the add-on, it takes at least several weeks for the add-on to be updated in the marketplace.  If you are having problems with MSFS, you should delete your marketplace add-ons too and test MSFS again,

What vidcard and driver and monitor and refresh are you running?  Are you using default driver settings?

Also I'd run MemTest for your ram, although sometimes even memtest doesn't detect an undervolt situation.
