Any knowledge of the Camera system? Camera.cfg?

Featured Replies

Is there anyone out there with basic knowledge of the camera view system that could maybe help me get started? (top hat views).

I fly the default C172 a lot (I think it is actually quite good for a default aircraft) and the cockpit views using the top hat switch actually line up with the cardinal points alright.

But last night, I tried the X-Cub, and while left, right, and forward are alright, the rest are messed up.  For instance, the view left and behind (over left shoulder), shows a completely different view inside the cabin.
I have had this issue with other aircraft as well.

I wonder if anyone knows how to start to put this right?  Do you have to manually edit the camera.cfg file?  and is it just trial and error?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

If you want to use keyboard its real easy - hold down left crtl and hit number pad 0 at the same time for lets say front view

Then its saved - for side left view move your mouse where you like it then left ctrl number pad 1

Then its saved - for side right view move your mouse where you like it then ctrl number pad 2

Keep doing this for all the views you want using remaining numbers

Just move mouse first to where you like the view and hold down left crtl and any number for more views you would like - pretty easy

If you like just using a controller you will have to experiment

Are these the "default views"?

ALT+CTRL+n  is in the documentation for custom views... and then recall, using ALT+n.

I realized this for the Super Cub as well. The quick views are messed up. I tried but was not able to get it somehow assigned properly. In the end I stopped flying this plane until this is corrected by Asobo. What a pity, the plane is really nice…

Sure, thanks guys.  I do set up my favourite forward view like this, by using height (up and down arrow keys), zoom, and mouse.  I press ctrl-alt-1, then set alt-1 to a button on the joystick so I can go back to this favourite view quickly.

Where I am having trouble is setting up  the top hat views.
Left top hat normally shows left quick view, and right does right etc.  But forward left, rear left are messed up on some aircraft (such as the X Cub)
The top hat views don't go to the corresponding cardinal compass views as they do in say the default C172, which is perfect.

Archer over at flightsim.to makes lots of 'better camera' views, but only for the third party aircraft up to now, such as the Piaggio 149.

Sure.  And yet some of the freeware mods, such as the Got Grravel have perfect views set up straight from install. Strange.

I might try using one of these good ones as a template, but I am not even sure if copying over a good camera.cfg is the way to start at the moment.  There seem to be lots of offsets and X, Y, and Z coordinate differences for each plane having a quick look.
It might be quite a job!
Obviously I will back up my originals.

Ah ok Bob not sure on that one - I'm far from a pro on the view system - have to be a rocket scientist I guess

No not default for me I hit the num pad numbers nothing happens - but when I do what I said above I can very quickly get views I want - but I must do this for each different aircraft - its not across the board

All a pia really thinking of an eye tracking system well see

Yes a lot of simmers coming over from Xplane can struggle, thinking it uses the Xplane system on the number pad rather than the top row numbers.  I must admit it had me fooled for a few minutes last August!

You can make it behave more like X-Plane. I have mine set up to use the CTRL+# to save, and then i can hit NUM 0-9 to jump to that custom view.

Speaking of a hat currently have the Honeycomb yoke and hat is on left side - ding dongs - I cant get used to that - thinking of how to add a hat of sorts on the right side - maybe setup Thrustmaster airbus stick as just a hat nothing else - but there goes another usb slot 😞
