The Mysterious Floating Roof

Featured Replies

I see something odd at KPVC, and wondering if others have seen the same.  The main building, next to the hangar, the roof floats above the building.  Is it only on my end?

The roof isn't floating, the center of the model is just invisible.

It's random, sometimes it's there, sometimes it isn't.

I've seen this too on other airports after SU5.

This issue occurs randomly at many Asobo default airports since SU5. Nothing you can do about it until they fix it. Hopefully soon. It does not seem to affect 3rd party scenery though, so if it is at an airport that matters to you, see if there is a freeware (or pay-ware) add-on.

If anyone finds a temporary solution before the next update, post it here.   If not we'll see what happens after the next update on the 7th?

Yup, me too, but why only at departure airports? At least for me.

I had that happen twice, once before U5 and once after.

The fix was the same both times, delete the cache. And rebuild it. Very easy to do.

For me this fixed it both times right away. Once it was KPWM and once KLGA.

This is another example of many things in MSFS that affect people in different ways.  I don't use a cache, so there is nothing for me to delete and rebuild.  I also never experienced it at the many airports people were reporting it a few months ago (including KPWM and KLGA) through repeated attempts to recreate it on my system.

Then, out of the blue, the ceilings were floating with no walls on a flight I started at KHSV.  I had never seen it happen before.  I went through the painfully slow process of disabling things with addons linker and restarting the sim to try to track it down.  Turns out it would only happen if I had all the WT mods active at once (G3000, G3X, CJ4), even if they were the only mods in my community folder.  I restarted multiple times to verify.  I had to stop for the night, and went back to verify it the next day with just the same three mods... and the buildings were all fine at KHSV.  I then activated all the mods I had in addons linker, and the buildings at KHSV were fine.

Turns out it had nothing to do with the WT mods, nor any other mod on my system.  I have no idea why I could only recreate it with those particular mods active one day, and have it perfectly fine the next.  All of this testing occurred with no cache active, and I've started a flight from the same airport from the same parking spot several times since to see if I could get it to happen again, but it has not.

MSFS is a strange beast.

And MSFS is a streaming service,  what you see is dictated by what the servers send you...

If something strange happens, it may well be the servers acting up... not the settings on your system.. hard to distinguish.. 😉
