September 8, 20214 yr Well another MSFS update and this one needs to be done via the Microsoft Store which is a pain in the neck to say it politely. I have tried that I consider to be everything and still cannot run MSFS. I found a Youtube tutorial showing how to get around the identified problem and followed it exactly (in Microsoft Store search for XBOX and then LAUNCH then click on the 3 dots (...) and Microsoft Flight Simulator Update will appear - but it doesn't. Meanwhile I can't run MSFS. Has anyone found how to install this latest update (6) and if so please explain to me who thinks he must be a dummy. September 8, 20214 yr Author Sorry I had not scrolled down the web page far enough. In the meantime I found another YouTube video which suggested to do any pending Windows update(s) and although the one displayed said 'optional' I clicked on it and after it was installed and my PC rebooted (automatically) all of a sudden I see the MSFS showing partly downloaded. Why does MSFS/Asobo make it so hard? There is a growing number of Youtube videos posted in the last 24 hours showing how to 'deal' with the problem. Never had such problems with X-Plane. September 8, 20214 yr Moderator Yes, it was a major PITA for me as well. I finally found the required XBox App, installed it and then was able to grab the updated files, only to then discover I had to then grab the actual MSFS update so it could install! Fr. September 9, 20214 yr Author Isn't about time that MS/Asobo started treating their customers with a bit more thought. It's a bit like "we've got your money so just put up with it". Until MSFS I was using X-Plane and NEVER had any issues. It's enough to put you off their products. I pity the "mums and dads" out there who wouldn't have a clue about looking for YouTube videos. I don't think we should be too hard on them, the new sim is a whole new ball game. In fact we've never seen anything like it before, it's revolutionary. Big updates for all manner of aspects of the sim on a regular basis are bound to shove a few spanners in the works. Bit of a hassle when big updates upset things but the product is pretty amazing and Asobo are committed to making it better and better. I think its pretty much inevitable that there will be annoying bugs for some when updated, considering the complexity we are dealing with. They certainly care about the customer or we wouldn't be getting huge updates plus new aircraft all for free. Edited September 9, 20214 yr by martin-w
September 9, 20214 yr A wonder if people would be so understanding if their new electric cars had issues as frequently and as fundamental as MSFS2020 has had. MSFS2020 was marketed as a 'finished' product. A software package that was ready for sale to the public. It was not marketed as a "beta" product. Asobo and company are professional programmers, not hobbyists, so it is reasonable to expect their product to be fully debugged before it is provided for use by the consumer. Yes, I purchased MSFS2020 and have enjoyed the eye candy. However, at the end of the day I want and expected a professionally produced product. I don't believe that is what I received. Danny

Try to come up with a better analogy. This is a piece of recreational software, not a car, not a house, not a piece of medical equipment. If we drop the hyperbole and recognize it for what it actually is, maybe the current problems won't seem so much like the end of the world. (Not to mention the first generation of electric cars had a lot of issues of their own to overcome). PC: I9-10900K, RXT 3090, 64GB RAM, 3840x1080 49" super-ultrawide

This is software, very complex software, with multiple variables, all manner of add-ons and with world and regional updates on a regular basis. It would be very nieve to expect such a complex entity to be extensively updated without issues. As for testing, there are way too many variables to ensure a release is bug free.
September 27, 20214 yr How I finally managed to reinstall and update MSFS 2020 - my story. I was excited to get the DVD Premium Deluxe version of MSFS 2020 as a birthday present when it came out in 2020. Installed the DVDs on my slightly under specification I5. Then to the infamous MS Store to complete the installation. No joy. It wouldn't download. No error message. I followed all the online advice and nothing worked. Eventually, I assumed the problem was my underspecified PC. My copy gathered dust for a year. Then, about six weeks ago, I got a shiny new Ryzen 5 machine with 32 GB and an 8GB graphics card and tried again. Same problem! After hours of trying to solve the problem, I get MS on the phone (how, you may well ask). I was flipped back and forth between MS and the Xbox team for more than two hours and finally, they had me carry out a Windows Reset. It wasn't too big a deal. I hadn't yet installed much on the new machine. Anyway, it worked and I was able to install MSFS. Joy. The eye candy was worth it. I had logged about 6 hours when the mandatory September update was released. Now the fun (not) began again. The update was not presented in the MS Store as promised. After following endless online suggestions and all the instructions from Zendesk, I still could not fly. An online post suggested terminating Gaming Services. This made allowed the sim to function without the update! Not satisfied with this, I continued pressing for a solution. Zendesk said reinstall, so . . with trepidation, I tried to reinstall MSFS . . and, yes, you guessed it, the MS Store download failed. This time with an error code. I did get MS on the telephone again. I was transferred to the Xbox people but they didn't answer and eventually cut the line. Tried everything suggested online. Clutching at straws, I made just enough space on my C drive to install the sim, and bing, the download commenced. I have no idea why this should work. After a minute or two, the sim started! Then it gave me the option of installing the bulk of the 130 plus GBs on another drive. I remain perplexed, but I am flying again. I hope this helps others who have been cast into a pit of rage, gloom, and despair by the sloppy testing and apparent disinterest of - who? Microsoft? Xbox? Asobo? I expect they are all pointing fingers at each other.
