September 8, 20214 yr I commented on this in a couple threads but it really needs to be discussed. The difference in what we can expect with World Updates versus SU updates. In short World Update have historically improved the sim and moved it forward. So with this new release (WU VI) I like many others am very excited to see improvements and issues resolved. The problem is when Asobo get's around to the SU update it takes us ten steps back. Our add-ons are broke, ATC get's screwed up, XBOX version get's release hosing up our tool tips (just making a joke here), etc. So first and foremost maybe Asobo can meet us half way and not force the SU updates on us. Give us a choice until the issues are resolved. Second I'll be impressed when a couple SU updates come down and they don't regress the sim. I was flying North from the Keys in Florida yesterday after installing VI and marveled how the downtown building came into view properly as I approached downtown Miami. I then flew up the coast to Ft. Lauderdale and thought I haven't seen this since SU3. I long for the day Asobo can leave well enough alone and fix the actual issues on their to do list. So I'm enjoying the sim now (still testing) but also hoping by the end of September (or whenever the next SU comes out) that all is not regressed and the frustration returns leaving us all to say can we have 'v1.19.8.0' back... September 8, 20214 yr I don't feel it "needs to be discussed" but ok... 1. I've never seen the sim take 10 steps back. That's just being dramatic. So there we go, we took care of that. 2. I look forward to them impressing you and hope they don't regress the entire sim as you speculate. Don't really know how else to respond, you can either take a good thing like WU6 and be happy with it or you can turn it into a "possible, potential, speculative" failure with the next SU in the future and already start to project the sky falling down. Maybe they are just getting better? Maybe you don't need to "find" a negative in every positive that "needs to be discussed" maybe we can just say "good job" and be grateful? Nah, let's start bashing them over what "may" happen in the future and predicting they are going to render the entire sim unusable. Also, you already commented below but this wasn't enough negativity so you had to start your own thread? Trying to bring everyone down in this thread wasn't enough so you had to bring your negativity and speculation to it's own thread? 9 hours ago, RobJC said: With this update I feel like we have finally gotten over the hump with this project. Of course, SU5 was a huge step in the right direction, but we really needed this update to truly deliver on the potential that SU5 was teasing us with. Now that the sim runs great for most, and looks just as good, the team at Asobo can focus on the nagging little issues that are pretty much everywhere. I just don't think we were going to get there until we got to the point we are at today. I am not suggesting the hard work is behind the team, but I believe the resources that have been allocated to get this project in decent shape can now be utilized to fix so many other previously "lower priority" issues that have been on the back burner for the past year. Realistically, I think the team needs another year to really iron this sim out, but at least now most of us can enjoy this sim at a decent level. And we can see the true potential of this platform, which is ground breaking in so many ways. Today was a huge step forward imo. 1 hour ago, Dillon said: Don't get so excited. World Updates have never been a problem, it's the SU updates that have taken the sim three steps back. When the next couple of SU comes out and they don't break things then I'd say we're over the hump. Also forced updates need to go away. BTW, let's also not forget no other sim ever updates "content" like this... Every single one of these World updates would be a series of costly addons in our prior sim iterations so I'm just going to be grateful they are still coming opposed to already speculating on what "may" happen next. September 8, 20214 yr Hi I am glad that you managed to install the latest update Have been unable to do so, when loading FS2020 it keeps telling me a New Mandatory update is available. Please update Microsoft Flight Simulator in the Microsoft Store before launching I did that & it re-launches and then gives me the same message - so I end up in a loop. Very frustrating had a look at their Help page did all that they suggest - alas still the same So no Flight Simulator for me at the moment, why they cannot give you the option is beyond me Regards Hans Brokke South Africa

September 8, 20214 yr I can understand how it could be frustrated not to be able to use the sim of our choice after these (for some) difficult mandatory updates. I personally feel lucky (1.19 run smooth here) and now I fully rely only on one sim because it fits my sim.usage (Small GA plane, slow&low, real VFR training). I said good bye to my previous sim. despite having a valide licence. I take for granted that MSFS is a baby child. We just celebrate its first year anniversary. A lot of things create bad experiences (for some) of us. It depends on the usage. But I'm glad we have a brand new awesome platform even with a lot of bugs and features lacking of consistency (SU may help), glad to have content delivered for free (WU) every month or so, glad that a lot of new users gets the opportunity to jump into our world "Flight Simulation" and revive the sim. community. A long term, win-win investment. The price is rude for those like me live with their flight sim for decades as a passionate hobby. But we shoudn't t forget tips, tricks and workarounds on FSxx or Prepar3D. I consider it's a hard few childhood moment to deal with. In the meantime, nevertheless MSFS is capable to deliver an unbelievable sim.experience for my usage. Edited September 8, 20214 yr by vbazillio Vincent B. And if that doesn't work, it might help to first start the Xbox app and login if you haven't already. I had to restart my PC twice and keep checking for updates, and only after starting the xbox app I got the update. It might have been a coincidence though. September 8, 20214 yr Thank you but no luck Not to worry I will carry on reading & doing ALL their recommendations The last resort is to un-install & then re-install - done it before the process takes about 24 hours
September 8, 20214 yr Thanks for all the encouragement I am no youngster anymore (75) I have been with Flight Simulators since FS9 day's, later went to LHM P3D all versions and dropped everything for the Superb MSFS2020 Have not tried the Xbox route will install the AP & hope it does the trick
September 8, 20214 yr It really depends on how you look at it. When we got our hands on the very first version, we all got to see the state this project was in. Early access would be about right imo. Microsoft and Asobo decided to be very open about development, in many ways revolutionizing how communication between developers and customers is done. They also took our feedback, allowing us to vote on the top issues. Every update has been two steps forward, one step back, but there has been progress. I think the reason i stayed positive about this project is because i saw (and continue to see) the bigger picture. This team is talented. This project is a landmark achievement. How lucky are we to have a flight sim that is a technological marvel? But it is, and will remain a work in progress for at least another year. If you can accept that, and understand that progress does not come without a few bumps, then you will enjoy the experience a lot more. It is a mindset. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

Two things I can agree with you on is first I should have said two steps back instead of 10. Second I totally agree with your appreciation of the sim and your last point is spot on about the content and what we would have paid with previous sim incarnations. Also the level of engagement is unprecedented and much appreciated by all of us. Asobo has revolutionized engagement with the community. That being said I'm not being negative to point out the obvious. Everything from the Dolphin Dance introduced in SU3, wing rock, oversized buildings, autogen scenery being severely reduced since the sim was released, to the castration of night lights on the ground has always been SU updates while everything from the Japan World Update to what we have today has been pretty smooth for the most part. Things were getting tweaked that weren't even on the change log. I just wanted to point that out in a specific topic not to get attention but a discussion that hopefully Asobo sees and maybe listens to. The point is if things are still going to be rocky as they make changes moving forward maybe not forcing us all to update until their sure they got it right with Sim Updates is a better answer. What we have now is a stable release with 'v1.19.18.0'. All too often it goes to south with the next update, that's just a fact. Love the team, love the accomplishment of FS2020 itself, and/or have an untethered appreciation after years of dealing with what we had before this version is all good but it's still a fact a better update plan needs to be considered. I get what the developers are trying to do on their end to make support that much easier to deal with. Also until they installed this new QA/beta team (which has done a great job by the way) checking patch releases it's been a disaster previously on more than a few occasions. So again not being negative but realistic as to what we've seen over the last year and thinking about the next year. I of all people hope moving forward is better now that Asobo has gotten over the XBOX hurdle but just the same let's now start to have the same level of solid patch releases whether it be World Updates or Sim Updates.
