September 17, 20214 yr The new hotfix today provides an additional option in the graphics menu to select the quality of "Raymarched Reflections." What in the world does this mean? Can someone provide screenshots demonstrating the difference between Low Raymarched Reflections and Ultra Raymarched Reflections? I've never heard this term in my life. September 17, 20214 yr Volume ray casting, sometimes called volumetric ray casting, volumetric ray tracing, or volume ray marching, is an image-based volume rendering technique. It computes 2D images from 3D volumetric data sets. September 17, 20214 yr That name was already there after WU6. It actually is the old "reflections", just renamed. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
September 17, 20214 yr As far as I was aware, MSFS never used either raytracing or raymarching, so this is all a bit of a mystery to me too. September 18, 20214 yr It's in the same spot in the options list as the old "Reflections" setting which is now MIA. Going to assume they just renamed it for some reason but that it's the exact same thing. It is advance development for the arrival of low, slow, traffic copters. it will work wonders for definitions on buildings, road, telephone and light poles, and road traffic. If you are like me and fly cross country at 5,000 or above then you just appreciate what they produced for the rotary wing pilots. We each need some perfume to sniff.... September 18, 20214 yr To be clear, ray tracing is good for things like global lighting, shadows and reflections in a cabin or cockpit, we do not have it yet. Raymarching on the other hand works better for hard to define intersections like with clouds or smoke. We clearly do have raymarching.
